ABOUT THE FLUENCE

The Senior Mechanical Engineer will play a critical role in helping Fluence deliver the next generation of energy storage technology. 
The Senior Mechanical Engineer will primarily engage in the ongoing development of Fluence’s energy storage products, focusing on mechanical design. Fluence deploys lithium-ion batteries in utility scale projects, typically inside of metal enclosures. 
The work will be focused on systems related to the structural design of the enclosures; internal equipment layout for ease of manufacturing, installation, and maintenance; cooling and fire suppression system design; and design to meet various published technical standards and codes. 
Fluence is looking for an experienced mechanical engineer who can tackle difficult technical problems and perform design work. The ideal candidate will have a broad mechanical engineering background as well as a strong proficiency in 3D CAD and finite element analysis. Experience with cooling systems, both air cooling and liquid cooling, is also beneficial.

  • Experience - 8 – 12 years of related Experience / Master’s with 6 years of related experience / PhD with 3 years of related experience. 
  • Educational Qualifications - Mechanical Engineering Background.
  • Mandatory Skills:
  • Mechanical Designing

  • Experience in air cooling and liquid cooling systems. 
  • Battery Energy Management System. 
  • Working on SolidWorks.

  • Preferred Skills:
  • 1.Seismic Analysis. 
  • 2. ASCE 7-16 requirements. 
  • 3.Knowledge in IEEE693.
  • Roles and Responsibilities:
  • The preferred candidate will have a background in Mechanical engineering and product development in the power conversion and/or renewables space, in specific to the Battery energy management system and prior experience in resolving the site issues, driving Root cause analysis, providing solution to the Site commissioning team for the project specific issues. Experience with energy storage is strongly preferred.
  • Participate in project site root cause analysis activities, interfacing with customers and resolving their concerns raised during the installation and commissioning phases.
  • Highly experienced with solid model design software (preferably including SolidWorks), including performing structural FEA analysis.
  • Takes individual initiative and works with minimal supervision while being a collaborative team player. Possesses sound business judgment.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, including the ability to present ideas and suggestions clearly and effectively to internal and external audiences.
  • Proven success on challenging projects where you made key contributions while demonstrating ownership, creativity, and initiative.
  • Desire to learn new skills, business applications and equipment platforms.
  • Competence in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, CREO, Auto CAD, 3D Modelling.
  • Travel requirements: up to 40%, including international travel. 
  • Flexibility to work at various time zones.

  • Preferred Knowledge:
  • Experience performing mechanical design of electrical power equipment, such as electrical panels, power converters, or control panels.
  • Experience with design of air and liquid cooling systems, including fan sizing, CFD analysis, pump sizing, pressure drop analysis, and component selection.
  • Experience with seismic analysis and familiarity with IEEE693 and/or ASCE 7-16 requirements
  • Experience with utility scale battery energy storage systems.
  • Plus: Prior knowledge/experience with Fluence product offerings and ability to work in a manner consistent with the Fluence values of Leading, Agile, Responsible.
