As part of a team, you will work on all aspects of regulatory matters for Lilium in the United States and internationally, tackle challenges and deliver something that has never been done before. The company is embarking on an entirely new concept, building an all-electric vertical take-off and landing jet, offering leading capacity, low noise, and high performance with zero operating emissions. Thus, the creation of new rules will be required for instance, regarding air operations, pilot licenses, airspace integration and infrastructure to mention a few areas. You will be creating and implementing our regulatory strategy, engaging with regulators and lawmakers in the US and around the globe and shaping the regulatory landscape for eVTOL jets and electric aviation overall. The role also encompasses monitoring and intelligence gathering of relevant policy developments at US, international and national levels, building a strategy to ensure Lilium’s interests are represented in new laws and regulations including drafting and defending policy papers, representing Lilium in trade associations and other forums and communicating our needs to elected officials and regulators.

The position reports to the Head of Public Affairs, Americas, is part of Lilium’s commercial team and will work closely with other members of the management.

Your Day to Day

• Work across the organization to develop and implement our regulatory strategy
• Manage and nurture relationships with key FAA officials and staff along with other national and international aviation regulators as well as other official bodies and stakeholders to work towards a progressive change in regulation
• Represent Lilium’s interests in relevant trade associations and other interest representations
• Conduct research, prepare high-level meetings, draft written submissions and statements
• Develop regulatory proposals and manage rulemaking activities with various regulator
•  Monitor political and regulatory activities in relevant jurisdictions

Your Profile

• Significant work experience (5+ years) in the field of regulatory affairs with exposure to top-level decision makers
• Significant experience in aviation and/or other passenger transportation. Work experience in aviation a clear plus
• Top track record of effective regulatory adjustments
• Experience working with elected officials
• Strong academic background, especially in aviation law. A legal background and /or proven understanding of aviation law is a strong plus
• MBA, strategy consulting, start-up, or other relevant business experience a plus
• Fluent in English; additional substantial language skills a plus
• Excellent communication skills, both written and spoken and ability to explain complex regulatory issues in a clear an easy-to-understand way
• Able to develop positive working relationships across different levels and functions
• Able and comfortable working in a developing, fluid and constantly changing company, as well as handling multiple priorities while constantly meeting deadlines
