Your Role and Your Team:

The novel design of the Lilium Jet presents unique challenges for our Loads Engineers. The Loads and Aeroelastics Engineers are the figurative glue that binds disciplines together, understanding the underlying physics to robustly predict loads throughout the flight envelope. We are looking for an outstanding Loads Engineer to develop methods, calculate loads, test and validate predictions, and assist in the certification of the Lilium Jet.

You will report to the Loads, Aeroelastics and GFEM Team Lead, working as part of an integrated team within the larger Flight Mechanics department. Your day-to-day activities will involve interacting across the teams, such as Aerodynamics, Modelling and Simulation, Flight Control Laws, and Structures to ensure a consistent understanding of the Lilium Jet’s behavior.

The Flight Mechanics team uses a mixture of low and high-fidelity calculations, together with optimization methods and physical testing, to ensure our aircraft and systems achieve our performance targets. We use state-of-the-art systems to deliver rapid results and encourage innovative thinking to achieve the best solutions on time.

Your Day to Day:

  • Full cycle of limit loads calculation activities at both aircraft and component level for design exploration, product development and certification.
  • Closely collaborate and maintain strong relations with Aerodynamics, Modelling and Simulation, Flight Control Laws, Mass Properties, Performance, Propulsion System, Structures, Flight Test, Battery System, and Certification.
  • Support the definition of modelling strategies and implementation of frameworks and models to analyze the aircraft loads.
  • Support the development and execution of component and aircraft level ground test and flight test campaigns for loads.
  • Support the validation of loads models with ground and flight test results.

Your Profile:

  • M.Eng. or M.Sc. in Aerospace Engineering or a similar degree.
  • 5+ years of professional experience in aircraft static and/or dynamic loads.
  • Previous experience in aircraft certification.
  • Highly proficient in using Nastran, Multibody Dynamics codes (Motion Solve, Adams, etc.), and scripting languages (Python, Matlab).
  • Experience with control systems and aero(servo)elasticity is a plus.
  • Target-oriented, driven work style with analytical problem-solving skills.
  • Fluent English language skills are essential.
