This role will be a lead partner for the team’s manager. The Senior FP&A Analyst will help build out the FP&A function and establish best practices in the organization as it grows. 

The Senior FP&A Analyst’s primary function is to develop fact-based, practical but challenging business plans, analyze actual results to forecast key risks and opportunities and proactively help each team, and the company overall, take actions to manage financial performance.

As CFS is growing, an important element of this role is comfort and familiarity working with financial and other systems to develop useful, efficient reports which aid operating and technical teams to make informed, timely, fact-based decisions, as they build the world’s first net energy (Q>1) compact fusion system known as SPARC. SPARC is CFS’s pilot fusion plant project which is an important step to accelerate the development of commercial fusion energy later this decade.

This team member will:

  • Leading cost budgeting, forecasting, tracking, and month end close process for corporate functions
  • Supporting preparation of management reports & budget vs actuals reports
  • Updating and maintain forecasts in the budget and planning tool (Odoo / Adaptive Planning)
  • Leading headcount budgeting & forecasting across different departments and projects
  • Continuing the development of, and optimizing, the use of systems & processes to automate reporting and analysis where possible, and improve efficiency across the team
  • Supporting further development and design of Adaptive Planning & Odoo system improvements, including integration with other information platforms in the company
  • Manage WBS creation and coordinate with stakeholders across the company
  • Design and maintain financial tracking and reporting
  • The ideal candidate will have most, if not all, of these requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Economics or STEM fields
  • 5+ years experience in preparing and coordinating budgets, modeling, forecasts, and related reporting
  • Experience communicating the results of planning and analysis with operating teams and leaders to help drive improved business and project performance 
  • Experience with Adaptive Planning, BI Reporting tools such as Tableau, Google Data Studio, Power BI
  • Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) including experience with financial reporting, forecasting and analysis across the income statement, balance sheet and statement of cash flows
  • Requires strong quantitative and financial analytic skills
  • Strong Excel experience
  • High energy and engagement, with flexibility to complete work during periodic very busy times
  • Collaborative work style
  • Experience working with a diverse set of stakeholders with a strong customer service orientation
  • Excellent verbal and written communication & data presentation skills, including the ability to effectively communicate with both business and technical teams

  • Additional experience and/or qualifications:

  • Experience in R&D & manufacturing environments
  • Ability to work effectively with accounting systems such as Odoo
  • Budgeting and forecasting for large capital projects
  • Ability to work effectively with accounting systems
  • Experience preparing and reviewing complex models in Excel
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent analytical, planning, and organizational skills
  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time
  • Willingness to occasionally travel
