We're looking for a Senior Field Safety Engineer to ensure safe execution of plant construction, commissioning, and operations at our facility in Devens and our electrolyzer plants. You will think about safety principles and question norms that shape our construction and operations. You will be an important partner to engineering, construction, and operations team, driving a safety-first culture across multiple complex projects.

You will work onsite at our Devens, MA office reporting into the Director, Service Engineering & EHS. There will be 50% travel to our commercial assets in the field.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Be a safety owner for field Pre-Startup Safety Review (PSSRs), construction, mobilization, installation, commissioning, and early operations of hydrogen electrolysis plants

  • Develop, implement, and improve site-specific safety programs aligned with OSHA, PSM, NFPA, and ISO 45001 standards

  • Align target safety indicators and goals with those of customer to ensure all partners are aware and driving to common goals

  • Provide coaching and daily guidance to site personnel, subcontractors, and field supervisors on EHS practices

  • Lead daily toolbox talks, pre-task planning session, and site safety meetings

  • Handle juggling the expectations and deliverables from multiple partners onsite during the execution of complex projects

  • Comfortable working in an ambiguous startup environment improving existing procedures, finding and closing the gaps in EH2's EHS onsite policies

  • Develop permit-to-work systems such as: hot work, confined space, energized electrical work, and energy isolation

  • Ensure readiness and safe execution of commissioning activities including PSSRs

  • Oversee contractor safety performance, from pre-qualification to ongoing audits and corrective actions

  • Review all partner safety manuals and policies and ensure comply with electric hydrogen and customer policies

  • Inspect job sites for compliance with federal, state, and customer EHS requirements and suspend unsafe activities

  • Deploy RCCA approach to incidents and issues and lead data-driven continuous improvement culture

  • Identify SMEs required to partner in RCA and CA development

  • Build hazard analysis workshops such as: HAZOP, HAZID, and LOPA, and integrate findings into engineering and construction plans

  • Conduct Job Hazard Analyses (JHA) and Activity Hazard Analyses (AHA) for installation, commissioning, and startup phases

  • Track safety indicators, analyze incident/near-miss data, and guide corrective and preventative actions

  • Lead site-specific emergency response and evacuation plans

  • Coordinate drills for fire, hydrogen release, and electrical incidents with our teams and local responders

  • Lead investigations for safety and security incidents, conduct root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Occupational Safety, or related field

  • 8+ years of EHS experience in chemical processing, oil & gas, or industrial plant construction/operations

  • Demonstrate knowledge of OSHA, EPA, NEC, and OSHA Process Safety Management (PSM)

  • Experience managing safety for low and medium voltage (LV &MV) electrical systems, including arc-flash protection and PPE programs

  • Work onsite in harsh high heat conditions, experience working on an active construction site

  • Professional certifications: CSP (Certified Safety Professional), CIH (Certified Industrial Hygienist), OSHA 500 Trainer

  • Familiarity with NFPA 55, NFPA 70E, API/ANSI standards, and ISO 45001

  • Experience building and maintaining a safety-first culture

  • Previous plant safety ownership/governance with safety record/indicators

  • Greenfield site/plant development experience

$135,000$158,000 USD

Actual base salary offered to the hired applicant will be determined based on their work location, level, qualifications, job-related skills, as well as relevant education or training and experience.​
