Role Description

Form Energy is hiring a Senior Equipment Engineer specializing in Mechanical Systems, you will be responsible for leading the mechanical design of custom, high-precision machinery from concept to commissioning. This includes leveraging advanced 3D CAD, conducting FEA and kinematic studies, defining GD&T for manufacturability, and proactively identifying and validating high-risk mechanisms through hands-on prototyping and bench testing. Your expertise in fluid/mechanical power systems, materials science, and troubleshooting mechanical failures will be crucial to successfully delivering complex automated equipment.

This is an exciting opportunity to help shape and be part of the growth of a fast-moving company with breakthrough technology and an incredible mission!

This opportunity is based out of Form Factory 1 – Form Energy’s 550,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art manufacturing facility located in Weirton, WV, a commutable distance from Pittsburgh. Purpose-built for high-volume, advanced battery production, Form Factory 1 is a hub of fast-moving, collaborative work driving a new era of large-scale American energy manufacturing in the heart of the Rust Belt.

Relocation assistance is available.

What you'll do:

  • Lead the mechanical design of custom machinery using 3D CAD (SolidWorks/Inventor), focusing on precision and manufacturability.

  • Own the prototyping phase, identifying high-risk mechanisms early and validating them through physical bench tests.

  • Conduct FEA (Finite Element Analysis) and kinematic studies to ensure structural integrity and cycle time targets.

  • Define tolerances and GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) to ensure seamless assembly of custom-machined parts.

What you'll bring:

  • Proven track record of taking a "blank sheet" concept to a commissioned machine.

  • Advanced knowledge of fluid and mechanical power systems, materials science, heat treatment, and fabrication techniques.

  • Strong "hands-on" aptitude for troubleshooting mechanical failures during the build phase.

  • Bachelors degree or higher in mechanical engineering
