Your role and your team:

We are looking for an outstanding Electro-Thermal Engineer to join our innovative team that will shape the future of urban e-mobility. This position will contribute, as part of an integrated cross-functional team, to the energy systems architecture, design, and delivery of the Lilium Jet.

As an electro-thermal analysis expert in Lilium’s Electrical Power System team, you will evaluate the performance and capability of critical electrical components and their systems. You will develop thermo-electric models using first principles, simulations, and testing. You will validate these models against actual hardware and use the models to guide the design and architecture of electrical power systems. Your computational simulations characterize and predict all aspects of electrical system performance, including sizing, circuit safety, power quality, interface compatibility.

Your Day to Day:

  • Break down technical electrical and thermal engineering challenges into tractable models and simulations to identify potential problems, define suitable operating conditions, and optimize designs.
  • Develop component and system level thermal and power capability models with an emphasis on fit for purpose level of abstraction
  • Collaborate with a broad group of design, test, and simulation engineers within and beyond system boundaries to achieve integrated and optimized component and system designs guided by your analyses and simulations.
  • Propose and develop measurement techniques to obtain the necessary information to accurately model the system of interest.
  • Document critical results in technical reports and proactively share relevant insight across stakeholders

Your Profile:

  • BS degree or above in Physics, Electrical Engineering or equivalent
  • First-principles physics understanding of multiple engineering disciplines such as: heat transfer, thermodynamics, electrical fundamentals, power conversion and electromagnetics
  • Demonstrated ability for analyzing electro-thermal and multi-physics systems to solve complex engineering challenges
  • Experience with analyzing thermal networks, thermal interfaces, electrical contacts, electrical insulators, electrical conductors, electrical circuit protection devices or arc physics
  • Hands-on experience with the common simulation tools e.g.: AMESim, Matlab/Simulink, Spice, StarCCM+, Comsol, Ansys, Flux
  • Skilled Python programmer
  • Demonstrated research capability to solve challenging problems
  • Planning and delivery of multiple assigned tasks effectively and efficiently
  • High level of self-reliance with the ability to work in a team, as well as autonomously
  • Target-oriented, driven work style with analytic problem-solving skills
  • Communicate clearly using excellent written, verbal, and data presentation skills
  • Fluent English language skills are essential
