The Role
As Moxion’s first Senior Controls Engineer, you will lead the production support and development of PLC, robotics and process control systems on the manufacturing equipment used by Moxion’s Battery Manufacturing lines. This highly collaborative position is a key part of the Manufacturing Engineering team, and you’ll work with other leaders, engineers, and technicians to establish Moxion as a world-class manufacturer of battery-based energy storage.

Maximum amounts are reserved for those candidates that exceed all experience and background requirements. We reserve the right to offer compensation based on level of experience. Moxion has different base pay ranges for different work locations within the United States, which allows us to pay employees competitively and consistently in different geographic markets. The range above reflects the potential base pay within the San Francisco Bay area. If you live outside that region, the range is subject to change.
Base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within the range provided above. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role.

What you'll do:
Develop and implement manufacturing equipment and processes ranging from whole production lines to individual automation cells by working with both internal design resources and external automation vendors.Evaluate and authenticate automated procedures through a data-driven methodology, such as simulation, statistical tests for Capacity and Capability (including Gage Repeatability and Reproducibility test, Cpk, etc.).Develop an architecture for data management and tracking communication networks, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement controls for traceability of products, processes, and quality.Lead and establish Moxion’s controls and test standards and create controls related test plans for new automated process equipment for deployment into production.Architect, write, and debug PLCs using Ladder and/or Structured Text with an emphasis on generating code that is organized, structured, documented, maintainable and reusable.Design industrial electrical control panels in compliance with NFPA79/NEC/UL508A standards, and generate schematics for electrical, pneumatic, and fluid systems.Guide application of Moxion’s controls standards by external automation vendors through specification, design review, and approvalLead and design equipment software interfaces that streamline data communication between manufacturing equipment and supervisory level systems such as the factory Manufacturing Execution system MES, CMMS, visualization software, SCADA and other software interfaces.Design, lead and develop HMI screens and SCADA for manufacturing production lines and automation work cellsGenerate Moxion controls standards and specification by using industry best practices for safety, cost and maintainability. Identify gaps and lessons learned from internal equipment development projects and by engaging external partners. Apply these lessons learned to ensure future projects can be executed more efficiently.Lead the creation of standards for robotics integration, coding and equipment selection. Implement (ANSI/RIA15.06/OSHA compliant) control reliable safety systems for safeguarding robots, gantries, conveyors, and other high volume manufacturing equipment.Lead team and projects to optimize automated processes to reduce cycle time, maximize availability and improve yield.Qualify and support vendors all the way through installation and commissioning to start of production and initial ramp and participate in FAT and SAT at vendors and in our factory.Working with manufacturing engineers, create or ensure training plans, troubleshooting documentation and full turn over packages for maintenance and production teams will be handed over. Maintenance and Production teams will be the end user and supporter of the equipment after launch.Skills to be successful:
Experience managing projects of controls standards creation, development and/or designExperience programming Allen-Bradley Rockwell, Siemens and/or Beckhoff PLCs; Ladder logic PLCs.Experience designing and troubleshooting common fieldbus networks such Ethernet/IP, EtherCAT, ProfibusExperience developing HMIs and SCADA systems using any one of these platforms: FactoryTalk, Ignition, WinCC, Wonderware, TwinCAT HMI, Python-based experience, or Similar.Experience with communication between PLCs and Database, i.e. Field bus Networks (EtherCAT, Profinet, Ethernet/IPSerial communication (RS-232) between PLCs and instrumentsExperience improving, designing and deploying automation equipment and industrial machineryExperience developing and programming 6 axis robotic work cells using fanuc, Kawasaki, ABB, etcYou might also have:
