Research Associate/Senior Research Associate, Food Science and Product Development

Your Role: 

We are looking for an early career scientist to join our Food Science and Product Development team. You will report directly to the VP of Food Science and Product Development, and support scientists on the team in a range of activities, primarily focusing on two areas: characterization of material properties of food prototypes, and intermediate-scale protein purification. Other responsibilities, in particular supp development of food formulations and small scale production of food prototypes, and other as needed. Because of the wide scope for this role, our ideal candidate should be a quick learner, very flexible and ready to master new skills.  Good hands-on experience in either of the most relevant areas (material science, or intermediate scale protein purification) is required, and deep fundamental knowledge of chemistry, biochemistry, physics, and food science is expected. 

Responsibilities:

• Support scientists on the team in performing experiments, primarily (but not exclusively) focused on characterization of material properties, and intermediate-scale protein purification;
• Collect and analyze data, keep good experimental records and regularly create experimental reports;
• Help with the upkeep of the lab and kitchen spaces, adhering to good manufacturing practices (GMP); 
• Supporting the team in other areas, including but not limited to preparation of food prototypes, supporting sensory panel testing, preparation and serving of food samples, might be requested.

Education and experience requirements: 

• BS or MS in a relevant field (chemistry, biochemistry, chemical or biological engineering, physics, food science, and related).
• Hands-on experience working in a wet lab (1-3 years for BS degree, 0-2 years for MS or similar). 
• Willingness to be a flexible member of a multi-functional team.
• Good verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
• Ability to support several projects in parallel, effectively multitasking.
• Travel: 20% or less.

Closing: 

The pay range is currently between $65,000 to $85,000 in annual gross compensation for a Research Associate role and between $80,000 to $110,000 in annual gross compensation for a Senior Research Associate role. Within the range, individual pay is determined by many factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
