About the role..

 

This opportunity is for a Research Associate to join our team with advanced expertise in plant biotechnology, specifically plant transformation techniques. As a Research Associate you will participate in the plant transformation and genome editing discovery platform. The position will require knowledge of various tissue and cell culture practices and provide opportunity to engage in multiple transformation projects and improvement processes. As the position is centrally situated in our editing platform, it will provide opportunities to work with other scientists and stakeholders. The role is located at our Cambridge, MA location. 

 

As a Research Associate, you will..

 

  • Perform experiments independently related to plant transformation and tissue culture  using established protocols in crops of business interest for Inari
  • Conduct experiments to explore ways to establish new tissue and cell culture systems and transformation techniques 
  • Collaborate with Scientists and other Research Associates to execute scientific experiments related to one or more projects
  • Follow aseptic techniques, health and safety procedures and contribute towards building a better work environment
  • Maintain high agility in uptake and execution of new technologies as required by the company mandate
  • Participate in troubleshooting of experimental protocols when needs arise and actively contribute towards identification and implementation of solutions
  • Participate in scientific discussions and communicate individual contributions or team findings to internal stakeholders
  • Maintain detailed, accurate and comprehensible records of all your experiments and results
  • Work effectively in a team environment to achieve desired results
  • Work in a fast pace environment and deliver results on high risk experiments

You bring..

  • A Bachelors or equivalent in plant biology or biotechnology with 1 to 5 years of work experience in the field of plant regeneration and/or transformation
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in tissue and cell culture (secondary embryogenesis, suspension culture) with emphasis on optimization
  • Experience with developing tissue culture techniques in commercially important crops such as soybean, corn and wheat. 
  • Experience with aseptic techniques and plant media preparation is required
  • Experience with cell and tissue imaging. Experience with high throughput imaging and image analysis is an asset. 
  • High agility in learning new technologies and adapting to new research needs as they arise

  • Positive attitude, willingness to be bold and take risks, and the ability to recognize and learn from failure
