About the role....

We are looking for a dedicated Research Assistant to join our Molecular and Genomics Analysis team. The successful candidate will be involved in variety research projects focusing on DNA extraction from plant tissue samples. This is a hands-on, lab-based role which requires the ability to work collaboratively and efficiently. The right candidate will be well-organized, detail oriented, flexible, and able to deliver high quality results on time.  This position is located in our labs in West Lafayette, Indiana.

As a Research Assistant, you will…

  • Perform DNA extraction from variety of plant samples and complete scheduled extractions within timelines defined by project teams in a fast-paced lab environment.
  • Ensure the integrity and quality of DNA samples throughout the extraction and storge process.
  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment related to DNA extraction, such as sample grinders, centrifuges, liquid handling robotics and pipettes.
  • Perform reagent and DNA extraction buffer preparations, assisting with cleaning, and maintenance of DNA extraction robotic systems.
  • Maintain a clean working environment in the lab.
  • Collaborate with team members to develop and optimize DNA extraction protocols for efficiency and yield.
  • Comply with laboratory safety protocols and guidelines.
  • Maintain accurate, comprehensible, and current laboratory records in databases and notebooks.

 

You bring…

 

  • Bachelor’s or Associates in Biotechnology or a closely related subject is preferred, not required
  • Basic laboratory experiance with DNA extraction and purification from plant samples and Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) technology.
  • Proficiency in using lab automation and using laboratory information management systems.
  • Ability to maintain a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Excellent organizational skills, time management and attention to detail.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Curiosity, desire to continuously learn and have a meaningful impact.
  • A collaborative approach, open to giving and receiving ideas, perspectives, and feedback.

 

 

Additional qualifications…

 

  • Prior experience working with Loboratory Information Management Syetems (LIMS), knowledge of data analysis, optimization in DNA extraction, worked in/experience with different protocols and tissue types.
