About the company:

Loam works with 4.5 billion years of evolution to solve the climate crisis. Microbes have changed the composition of our atmosphere through earth’s history. At Loam, we are ensuring these organisms can do it again. Through a better understanding of how microbes influence the carbon cycle, we can create new planetary-scale opportunities for carbon sequestration and improve agricultural productivity.

About Loam

At Loam, we have the earth in our hands. As a team of scientists, farmers and entrepreneurs, we are on a mission to improve the world’s farmland and address climate change.

We are developing microbial technology to remove CO2 from the atmosphere and build carbon in agricultural soils. With a dedicated agenda to deliver nature based solutions, we help farming businesses prosper by boosting yield and soil health and enabling access to carbon markets.

As a start-up with ambitious founders and investors, our work is fast-paced and multidimensional. We foster a supportive and diverse workplace, where every team member is encouraged to learn and grow beyond their area of expertise.

While everyone at Loam is working in different roles, we all have one job: to remove CO2 from the atmosphere and store it stably in the soil.

About the Role

The Agronomy Research Officer will work in Loam’s agronomy team to execute trials to evaluate inoculum performance at greenhouse and field scale. The role will work closely with R&D leaders, soil laboratories and product managers to deliver impactful carbon sequestration products for farmers. The Agronomy Research Officer will contribute to the execution of greenhouse and field trials, including monitoring, the collection and processing of soil samples as well as the measurement of agronomic data and observations across regional NSW. Close liaison with our farmer network will also be required.

Responsibilities include;

  • Planning and executing agronomic field and greenhouse trials
  • Running intensive soil sampling campaigns on-farm at various times of the year
  • Collection of in-season agronomic observations, measurements and data
  • Liaising with farmers regarding sowing, harvest and soil sampling logistics
  • Entry, management and QA/QC of field and greenhouse data
  • Information collation and report writing, both periodically and on completion of trials
  • Creating or adjusting protocols relevant to your work area

Requirements

  • A qualification in, and understanding of, agricultural science, soil science or agronomy
  • 2-3 years working experience in either agronomy, agricultural R&D or soil science (desired)
  • Highly organised and structured in your approach to work
  • Willing to work outdoors and in remote regions for extended periods

Please note you will need to be based onsite at our facility in Orange, NSW and when needed, able to travel within NSW and Australia.

Benefits

  • Fast-growing start-up with many opportunities for capacity building and career development
  • Work alongside leading scientists and innovators in an international organisation
  • Enjoy an inclusive and supportive culture
  • Competitive salary based on experience
