About the company:

Public benefit company on a mission to fight climate change by genetically enhancing CO2 capture and storage in trees.

Living Carbon is a public benefit company with a mission to fight climate change by transforming marginal land into high-value environmental assets. Our team specializes in restoring abandoned mineland and degraded agricultural land into diverse, thriving forests. We’re backed by prominent investors including Temasek, Toyota Ventures, Lowercarbon Capital, Felicis Ventures, and YCombinator.

We are seeking a motivated and field-ready forester based in the Appalachian Region of the US to join our team supporting Forestry Operations, with an emphasis on forest establishment and contractor management. You will lead field supervision of silvicultural activities in coordination with contracted forestry consultants, oversee forest service provider contracting,  and contribute to site evaluations. You will collaborate closely with Living Carbon teams across supply chain, land, and carbon science. Your primary objective will be to support the Forestry Team in achieving its forest carbon project implementation and operations objectives through focused, rapid coordination of project activities.

The ideal candidate is a proactive, collaborative self-starter interested in managing reforestation projects across the Eastern US - particularly on marginal to degraded lands. A successful candidate will have basic understanding of forest establishment using mechanical and chemical site preparation methods. The candidate should have knowledge of GIS/GPS functionality, spreadsheet creation and manipulation, and Appalachian hardwood and conifer tree identification and physiology. Equally important will be the demonstrated ability to build internal and external working relationships, the capability to work remotely and travel as needed, and a willingness to take initiative and grow within a rapidly changing early-stage company.

Living Carbon PBC is an equal opportunity employer.

We believe the best solutions to climate change are created by diverse teams. Living Carbon is focused on building a multicultural and inclusive team with strong representation from the many diverse communities disproportionately impacted by climate change. As a public benefit corporation, ensuring solutions to slow climate change are widely distributed to all peoples is critical to the success of our mission.

  • Assist in the preparation of reports, including project progress updates, cost analyses, and impact assessments designed for senior management and relevant stakeholders.
  • Regular travel to project sites for due diligence, site preparation, planting season and continual forest monitoring.
  • Engage with external partners, such as federal, state and local departments of natural resources, forestry agencies, conservation organizations to foster strategic alliances and maximize project impact.
  • Operate efficiently within our team of forestry professionals, providing field and office support of forest project implementation, with an emphasis on speed and agility. Perform tasks according to project budgets, timelines, and resources.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry developments, research, and best practices related to forestry and forest carbon projects, ensuring continuous improvement and innovation, while maintaining a focus on nimble operations.
  • Qualifications

  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to effectively manage contractors and build relationships with external partners.
