Who You Are

Sila Nanotechnologies is seeking a Process Engineer for our Capital Projects team to play a key role in the design and startup of new battery material manufacturing facilities. Your first project will tackle a variety of responsibilities to coordinate the plant-level process design for Sila’s next-generation anode material factory. In our small team, you’ll be the lead engineer to guide process design direction with our EPC, review external design documentation, and support equipment commissioning. You will use your expertise and relationships with our internal teams and external engineering partners to start up safe, efficient, and reliable new facilities.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Coordinate the process design of new facilities equipment by understanding, documenting, and communicating utilities and infrastructure requirements from Sila’s custom reactors and other supporting equipment
  • Serve as the main point of contact for process engineering inquiries from conceptual design through detailed design, construction, start-up, and initial operation. Respond to technical RFIs and submittals across multiple contractors.
  • Work with external engineering resources for drawing and design review cycles, ensuring compliance with applicable codes and standards; close gaps encountered in different phases of the project
  • Handle design changes to the overall facility block flow diagram and heat and mass balance, including utilities
  • Develop internal processes based on industry standards and requirements
  • Travel to build sites and contractors’ offices for design and commissioning support

Knowledge and Skill Requirements

  • B.S. in Chemical Engineering or related field with 5+ years of large capital project experience
  • Fluent in capital process design documentation
  • Familiar with working with and designing to industrial standards
  • Familiar with Process Modeling software such as Aveva Process Simulation/ SimCentral (preferred), ASPEN, HYSYS, ProII, or gPROMs
  • Process design experience including generating BFDs and HMBs, cost estimation, preliminary equipment sizing, and P&ID development
  • Familiarity with Process Hazard Analysis reviews
  • Experience in a PSM environment would be nice

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

  • Move long distances and be stationary for extended periods of time
  • Wear personal protective equipment including, but not limited to, a hard hat, gloves, safety glasses, and safety shoes
  • Occasionally kneel or bend
  • Up to 25% travel to and from build sites and contractors’ design offices

 

The starting base pay for this role is between $164,000 and $210,250 at the time of posting. The actual base pay depends on many factors, such as education, experience, and skills. Base pay is only one part of Sila’s competitive Total Rewards package that can include benefits, perks, equity, and bonuses.  The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
