We are searching for a Process Development Engineer to join our Cell Technology Team. This team is responsible for developing cell technologies and novel processes used for manufacturing critical cell components to be deployed in Electric Hydrogen's electrolyzer product. You will be responsible for the ideation, development, and maturation of manufacturing processes. You will be working closely with our manufacturing team to identify manufacturing equipment and bring manufacturing processes from the R&D lab scale all the way to gigawatt production scale. Reporting to our Senior Engineer – Cell Technology, you will work closely with cell design engineers, materials engineers, manufacturing engineers, stack engineers, and supply chain. The ideal candidate should be detail-oriented, self-motivated, and should thrive to drive the process development from concept to scale.

You will be based in Natick, MA, and report to our Senior Engineer – Cell Technology.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Create: Innovate and develop fabrication processes for critical cell components in electrolysis cells.
  • Collaborate: Collaborate closely with manufacturing team to help transfer and scale up the process from laboratory scale to gigawatt factory. Identify manufacturing equipment that are suitable for both small-scale and large-scale productions.
  • Optimize: Optimize processes with respect to cell performance, feasibility of scaleup, production yield, and process safety.
  • Details: Document and improve the process characterizations/metrologies, such as raw materials qualification, process controls/conditions, and product properties.
  • Own and Drive: take ownership of the processes and drive the process development to move forward. Be responsible to understand Process-Structure-Property relationships that are key for product success.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • BS/MS/PhD in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemistry, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field.
  • 2+ years of post-degree industrial experience in functions including manufacturing, R&D, process engineering.
  • Strong interdisciplinary communicator, across a range of engineering and operation functions.
  • Knowledge of environment, health, and safety (EHS) requirements for manufacturing.
  • Ability to pay attention to details.
  • Open-minded and be able to admit failure (i.e. realize road block)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Process engineering experience for electrochemical devices is preferred but not necessary, including but not limited to experience in electrolyzers, fuel cells, batteries, etc.
  • Experience using statistical methods for making process development decisions.
  • Experience of using materials characterization techniques including but not limited to SEM, XRD, XRF, PSD, etc.
  • Experience in process development of coating, drying, heat-treatment, assembling, etc.
  • Track record of innovation in process development and engineering.
