What we’re looking for:

We are seeking a Payroll Accountant to join our growing, fast-paced accounting department. We are looking for that unique individual who can handle processing payrolls for multiple entities as well as handle the accounting and reconciliations of those payrolls to our general ledger. In addition to responsibilities for all of payroll, this role will also be responsible for equity administration, all compensation-related accounting items, and other G/L accounting areas.

Reporting directly to the Director of Accounting/Assistant Controller. There are no direct reports for this position.

Arcadia is headquartered in Washington, DC, and open to fully remote candidates.

What you'll do:

  • Handle employee communications including timely resolution of payroll inquiries and/or payroll errors.
  • Implement, maintain, and review payroll processing systems to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions.
  • Proficiency in the calculation of salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions.
  • Ensure accurate and timely processing of payroll updates including new hires, terminations, compensation, and other employee record changes.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate records and reports of payroll transactions.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state/provincial, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws as well as advising on standard methodologies.
  • Assist the company's audits by providing records and documentation as needed.
  • Partnership with the Human Resources team to ensure compliance with the Company's total rewards philosophy.
  • Partnership with the Accounting team to ensure compliance with Company’s accounting and internal controls policies.
  • Identify, recommend, and implement updates to payroll processing systems and departmental procedures.
  • Record the impacts of payroll transactions in the Company’s general ledger.
  • Record monthly payroll accruals to ensure compliance with GAAP.
  • Manage equity administration for the Company’s issuance of equity awards to employees as well as the accounting for equity awards in accordance with ASC 718.
  • Prepare/review per pay period, quarterly, and annual payroll reports.
  • Other ad-hoc responsibilities as assigned.

What will help you succeed:

Must-haves:

  • You'll have extensive experience in a payroll specialist role or similar
  • Payroll certification (CPP/FPC)
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Human Resources, or related field
  • Extensive knowledge of the payroll function including preparation, payment, reconciliation, internal controls, payroll taxes, and audits.
  • Must be proficient with payroll software (experience with Rippling and Paycor would be ideal) and MS Excel
  • Ability to work cross-functionally in a high-growth, fast-paced, and dynamic tech environment
  • Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills across all levels of the business and global locations
  • Should be a self-starter able to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills and be able to effectively communicate with individuals from across the Finance Organization, external advisors, and consultants
  • Must possess excellent project management and partnering skills and successfully lead teams
