In this role, you will use your interdisciplinary skills to create compelling mechanical designs, manage contractors, and ensure smooth plant integration. You will be able to use your creativity to come up with clean sheet designs and innovate on designs created by others. We are looking for a self-motivated team player with unique viewpoints excited to build a new generation of electrolysis equipment. We are hiring multiple candidates for this role.

You will be based in our office in San Carlos, CA with allowable hybrid work schedule. You will report to the Director of Systems (Plant Engineering).

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with plant engineering, system engineering, product management teams, and outside contractors
  • Develop next generation modular mechanical designs for various components and systems
  • Review and give feedback on part and assembly designs
  • Develop models to analyze stress, fluid, and thermal performance and inform design
  • Perform tolerance stack-up analysis
  • Create test plans for mechanical systems
  • Create custom drawings and system specifications, and select off the shelf components
  • Work closely with suppliers to manage part quality and delivery timing
  • Release products to manufacturing, supporting volume scale up
  • 25% travel to contractor, vendor, and customer sites mostly domestic

Prior Experience and Professional Qualities

  • Mechanical Engineering Bachelor's Degree or similar
  • 2+ years mechanical engineering/design (multidisciplinary skills preferred)
  • Experience with 2D/3D CAD (e.g. SolidWorks), combined with stress, thermal, fluids analysis
  • Creative with an eye for detail
  • Understanding of Design for manufacturing, assembly, and maintenance
  • Experience taking products from concept through manufacturing
  • Eagerness to seek better solutions, asking fundamental questions
  • Self-starter with an ability to spot problems and take initiative to solve them
  • Experience working with vendors and contractors preferred
  • Startup experience preferred
  • Experience in renewable energy, climate tech, or chemical industries preferred
  • Passion for decarbonization highly preferred
