ICON is looking for a Mechanical Designer-Drafter to own the mechanical schematic creation and management process. As a Mechanical Designer-Drafter at ICON, you will be responsible for working with controls and mechanical engineers on mechanical system design and drafting various types of schematics as necessary to assist manufacturing personnel in the machine build process. This role is based at ICON’s Austin, TX lab and will report to the Director of Controls on ICON’s Controls team.

 


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Power User of SolidWorks 2021 and PDM Professional.
  • Create and maintain assembly drawings, detailed drawings, and bills of material.
  • Work with Mechanical Engineers to define design requirements of mechanical systems.
  • Manage assembly level documentation and product structure.
  • Work with and assist Manufacturing personnel as needed to:
    • Create and improve technical documentation.
    • Maintain mechanical drawing packages.
    • Develop required tooling and assembly methods.
  • Assist engineers as necessary to create and maintain designs.
  • Follow and adhere to applicable standards, including ASME drafting standards & GD&T best practices.
  • Configuration management of CAD databases including revision control.
  • Maintain and improve document control systems, engineering software tools, and parts libraries.
  • Exceptional technical and problem solving skills. 

 


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associates Degree, Certificate, or other related education for Mechanical drafting.
  • 8+ years of experience in a Designer or Designer-Drafter role.
  • Experience in working to ASME and related drafting standards.
  • 5+ years of experience working in a manufacturing environment, either in engineering supporting manufacturing, or in a design engineering environment.
  • At least 5 years of experience working with SolidWorks.

 

 

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • CSWP-Mechanical Design or CSWE-Mechanical Design certified.
  • Ability to create and maintain drawings and bills of material for mechanical assemblies, mechanical packaging, welded assemblies, and electro-mechanical assemblies, machined mechanical components, sheet metal fabricated parts and assemblies.
  • Ability to work in SolidWorks, a power user and PDM administrator, including maintaining parts & design databases.
  • Working knowledge of various fabrication drawing types used in mechanical documentation such as:
    • Sheet metal fabrication.
    • Welding.
    • Bolted assemblies.
    • Machining.
    • 2D cutting including waterjet, laser, and plasma.
  • Working knowledge of ANSI/ASME drafting standards.
  • Proficiency in GD&T best practices.
  • Working knowledge of PDM / PLM systems.
  • Ability to work in an environment of continuously changing priorities.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally and cross-departmentally.
  • Ability to work without supervision and maintain focus, priority, and on-time completion of tasks - self-driven & self-starting.
  • Ability to be creative in designs.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Ability to work with mechanical and electrical tools.
