About the company:
WHO WE ARE
At Proxima Fusion, we're driven by a bold mission – to redefine the future of sustainable energy. Our unique concept, built upon the groundbreaking W7-X stellarator and the latest advances in technology, paves the way for commercially viable fusion power plants.
What’s more, our work in stellarator optimization, powered by cutting-edge computation and machine learning, is propelling us into uncharted territories of fusion technology. New higher performance design points are unlocked by high temperature superconducting magnets.
To fully grasp this huge opportunity, we’re building a team of extremely dedicated and passionate people who come together driving something extraordinary, radically transforming technology in the world.
WHY JOIN PROXIMA FUSION
You will get to work on some of the most complex tech challenges to bring abundant, safe, clean energy to the world.
You'll get to join and learn from an exceptional selection of accomplished and driven individuals.
Do your life’s best work and enjoy the journey.
Get to show that big things are possible in Europe when you assemble the best talent.
YOUR IMPACT
You will contribute to the design of Proxima Fusion’s Stellarator Model Coil (SMC), including the mechanical design of key systems, components and assemblies comprising both the SMC, as well as the equipment and tooling required to manufacture it. You will participate in the development of prototyping & testing plans, potentially participate in the physical testing of new designs, concepts and materials and develop the mechanical designs for novel tooling, equipment, and manufacturing processes.
As a mechanical design engineer, you will have a key role in the design, delivery and implementation of mechanical equipment, to enable ongoing research & development, as well as the manufacturing scale-up of the magnet components, systems, and associated tooling and equipment. You will also work with external collaborators and suppliers to develop designs, equipment, systems and materials
WHAT YOU WILL DO
Design mechanical components and assemblies that either make up the SMC magnet assembly, and/or that are used in its construction.
Design, deliver, and support the use of test equipment for research, development, prototyping and production of the SMC components, materials and assemblies, particularly mechanical systems, manufacturing processes, and assembly tooling. You will help to develop and improve the designs of existing equipment in use.
Work with external suppliers and collaborators to assist and guide the development of mechanical / electro-mechanical components and systems, to enable the SMC development and manufacture.
Support other team members with the analysis and assessment of mechanical designs, providing design input and implementing recommended design improvements.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
High performers with excellent communication and problem-solving skills, who love challenges and are not afraid to experiment, take risks and learn from mistakes.
Experience in designing mechanical components and assemblies, with proficiency in CAD (experience with 3DExperience/CATIA v6 is highly beneficial, but not essential).
Experience in designing and delivering the conceptual and detailed design of mechanical and electro-mechanical equipment, particularly for use in research, development, prototyping and manufacturing.
Demonstrated ability to work with and manage external suppliers, with multidisciplinary technical teams in fast-paced, dynamic settings.
Proficiency with programming languages used in science and engineering (particularly Python) is beneficial but not essential.
Existing experience with the design, manufacture and assembly of low and/or high temperature superconducting magnets, and associated tooling and equipment, is desirable but not required.
INTERVIEW PROCESS
Recruiter Interview (30-60 min).
Technical Screening (30 min).
Technical Panel (3x60 min).
CEO call (30 min).
At Proxima Fusion, our mission is bold: making limitless clean energy a reality.
