ICON is seeking a Manufacturing Test Engineer to lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of testing processes for finished sub-assemblies and final products in support of our next-generation construction technologies, including the Phoenix system. This role is central to validating critical product performance, supporting compliance and certification processes, and enabling world-class, scalable manufacturing.
The ideal candidate will bring a strong foundation in embedded software, electrical engineering, and mechanical systems, combined with experience designing robust validation frameworks that ensure product performance, reliability, and regulatory compliance. You’ll work at the intersection of hardware, software, and manufacturing, owning test strategies that support safe, efficient, and repeatable production at scale. This role is based at ICON’s Austin, TX campus and will report to our Director of Manufacturing & Supply Chain.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and implement testing strategies for sub-assemblies and final products, enabling performance validation and compliance with quality and safety standards.
- Design and deploy custom test equipment and automated test processes for embedded systems, electrical hardware, and mechanical assemblies.
- Partner with cross-functional teams—R&D, Quality, Compliance, and Manufacturing—to support New Product Introduction (NPI) and ensure smooth transition from prototype to production.
- Support Phoenix system performance verification, including hardware/software integration testing, certification readiness, and data analysis.
- Collaborate on the development and execution of NRTL and CE certification processes, ensuring all test protocols align with regulatory standards.
- Own root cause analysis and corrective action implementation for test failures, leveraging data and diagnostics to drive resolution.
- Define and manage test documentation, protocols, pass/fail criteria, and traceability systems to support scalable manufacturing.
- Contribute to design-for-testability (DFT) efforts during product development and continuously improve process reliability.
- Provide hands-on support on the manufacturing floor, including setup, troubleshooting, and optimization of test systems.
- Analyze test data and apply statistical process control methods to drive insights and improvements.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in manufacturing test engineering or product validation, preferably in complex electromechanical systems.
- Strong understanding of embedded systems, electrical schematics, and low-voltage/high-voltage safety practices.
- Hands-on experience developing and maintaining test fixtures, software, and automation for production environments.
- Familiarity with certification standards (NRTL, CE) and product compliance processes.
- Proficiency with tools such as LabVIEW, Python, or other test scripting environments.
- Experience with data collection, analysis, and visualization for continuous improvement.
- Ability to work cross-functionally and communicate clearly with engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams.
- Comfortable working in hands-on, fast-paced production environments and lifting up to 50 lbs unassisted.
PREFERRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
- Experience in high-mix, low-volume manufacturing environments involving robotics, heavy machinery, or large-scale automation.
- Background in test process design for embedded control systems and electromechanical integration.
- Strong systems thinking and problem-solving capabilities with a focus on product reliability and safety.
- Experience with configuration management systems, BOMs, and engineering change processes.
- Familiarity with manufacturing ERP systems and process documentation tools.
