Role Summary

This role is for a Manufacturing Engineering Technician II on our drive unit pilot team, the role involves building and troubleshooting the drive unit. The drive unit consists of the motor and gearbox in a housing, and is the powertrain that propels our vehicles. We hand build these units here in Plymouth and work closely with our engineering and quality team to test out build processes, identify issues, and help improve the product. We also work closely with manufacturing engineering to help validate our assembly processes and tools for the factory line. This role is located in Plymouth, Michigan and reports directly to our Sr. Manufacturing Pilot Build Lead.

Responsibilities

  • Work with drive unit build team in Plymouth to assemble drive units and follow the instructions outlined in our documentation 
  • Manage your time effectively to meet the deadlines and schedules that are assigned to you while demonstrating ability to self-direct and seek out work to be done.  
  • Communicate effectively with the team, asking for help when needed and offering help when you are able, including with our cross functional stakeholders. 
    Demonstrate proficiency in usage of basic hand tools and power tools such as cordless drills, wrenches, fastener driving tools, and torque tools.  
  • Work safely following PPE protocol as outlined in the department safety policy 
    Must keep work area clean and organized and follow processes laid out in 5S plan. 
    Use of measurement gages, calipers, micrometers, etc. and use careful handling of precision instruments. 
  • Daily usage of PC, tablet, and phone to reference data, build sheets, and other documents. As well as careful recording of said data. 
  • Provide feedback and input into areas of improvement involving our tools, processes, and components. 
  • Takes on areas of responsibility and acts as the driver for these domains. 

Qualifications

  • Trade school, military technical training, or equivalent schooling or experience. 
  • 1-3 years as a technician in a similar role.  
  • Intermediate hand and power tool usage.
  • Precision measurement tool usage (micrometers, calipers, gage blocks, etc.).  
  • Careful logging and recording of data (Microsoft Suite, Atlassian Suite).  
  • Personal protective equipment (PPE) usage.
  • Knowledge of mechanical objects and how things go together.
  • Familiarity with various material fastening methods.
  • Technical and mechanical aptitude.
  • Experience with some fabrication methodologies.
  • Ability to take apart simple equipment to complete repairs or maintenance Detail oriented.  
  • Self-driven and directed- staying busy and looking for things to do Willingness to help and knowing when to ask for help. 
  • Working outside of comfort zone.
  • Ability to juggle multiple tasks sometimes with incomplete data positive attitude. 
  • Ability to follow directions written and verbal.
  • Ability to learn new systems, programs, and equipment by seeking out what is needed to do so.
