Role Summary:

The Material Planning Manager reports directly to the Sr. Manager of Material Planning. The manager plays a critical role in ensuring operational success. In this role you will be responsible for managing a team of Material Analysts and ensuring material availability to support production across multiple build stages and programs. You will be responsible for ensuring on hand inventory optimization. The manager must be able to receive assignments in the form of objectives and determine how to use resources to meet schedules and goals.

Responsibilities:

  • Manages direct reports to ensure targets are met and provides guidance to resolve technical problems
  • Develop Key Performance Indicators “KPI” to set targets, measure progress and report on results
  • Responsible for part availability and Material Requirements Planning for the manufacturing facility
  • Responsible for training and developing the skills of direct reports
  • Lead and direct the material planning team to balance the demand as driven by Material Requirements Planning (MRP), shop floor capacity, customer sales orders and supplier capability
  • Monitor accuracy of releases to supplier and ensure optimization of on hand inventory
  • Monitors supplier performance and production schedules
  • Assists with critical escalations, facilitate supplier improvement plans and countermeasures
  • Utilizes root cause analysis and basic problem-solving skills to drive continuous improvement in processes and metrics
  • Improve automated processes to maximize the flow of information and material in support of plant manufacturing goals
  • Ensures required documentation and/or system transactions are executed to allocate, purchase, internally manufacture or reschedule material as required
  • Analyzes data, including enterprise requirements planning information and prepares consolidated managerial reports as needed to facilitate and recommend actions to ensure plant/product line optimal supply chain execution
  • Evaluates operational performance of the group to facilitate performance management, merit promotions, dismissals, and commendations
  • Works cross functionally with Logistics, Purchasing, Material Handling, Quality, and other internal departments
  • Supports the material handling and production teams through communication of delivery exceptions
  • Supports new business strategies and material flow analysis
  • Inputs and adheres to the company’s overall annual business plan
  • Visit customer locations & plants during major milestone events to support the teams when required

Qualifications:

  • BS/BA in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Operations management, or other related fields strongly preferred or 5-7 years of applicable experience
  • Experience with Materials Requirement Planning “MRP” Software such as SAP required
  • Working knowledge in Excel, Word, Power point, and Outlook programs.
  • Strong leadership skills, experience managing multiple direct reports
  • Ability to set tasks and responsibilities
  • Creative problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and stay within budget
  • Strong team orientation and cross functional attitude
  • Ability and willingness to train and lead others
  • Overall understanding of purchasing practices, logistics flow, and warehousing of inventories
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as governmental regulations, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
  • Ability to communicate effectively in a high-pressure environment

  • Ability to work in a fast paced, high-pressure environment
  • Ability to withstand exposure to solvents, fumes, heat, and odors normally associated with paint application.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • Internal candidates interested in this position are required to have spent 6 months in their current position before moving onto another team.
