The Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Manager provides operational oversight for safety and environmental matters at various Research & Development facilities focused on lithium-ion batteries, battery electric vehicles, and electrical hardware development. The position is also responsible for developing, leading, and sustaining safety and environmental initiatives to ensure a safe and healthy workplace for employees. In addition, the position drives continuous improvement for operations by working with the business leaders to identify solutions to EHS issues/challenges.

Responsibilities

  • Manage, and ensure compliance with State & Federal regulations for multiple locations. 
  • Influence human behaviors to reduce workplace risks.
  • Teach others to assess risk, identify hazards, and implement appropriate controls.
  • Prior experience with identifying and minimizing Environmental, Health, and Safety risks and communicating critical tasks, as required, to essential business units.
  • Perform job duties in compliance with all state and federal regulations and guidelines, specifically OSHA and EPA.
  • Complies with all internal company policies and procedures.
  • Inspect and evaluate operational effectiveness to ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
  • Recommend corrective actions, and lead teams to completion, as needed.
  • Prepare, and submit environmental and safety reports for compliance.
  • Manage TSCA inventory and notices.
  • Keep up to date on process changes and approve any new required permit applications, while ensure applications are submitted as necessary.
  • Supports teams in the selection of appropriate personal protective equipment.
  • Incredible interpersonal skills, including the ability to influence others that do not directly report to you.
  • Assist in completing safety risk assessments.
  • Conduct safety training, as required.
  • Understands federal and state occupational safety and health regulations and monitors regulatory changes as they occur.
  • Strictly follow all aspects of the site Environmental, Health, and Safety Policy.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Prior EHS work experience across multiple locations.
  • Knowledge of current safety and environmental regulations.
  • Able to understand complex regulations and be able to communicate requirements to groups with diverse interests and backgrounds.
  • Familiarity with SharePoint, Benchmark ESG, Documentation management, and reporting systems.
  • Proficient understanding of incident and injury prevention programs.
  • Experience implementing, training, and maintaining safety programs such as Lock Out, Machine Guarding, Hazard Communication, High Voltage Electrical, and Ergonomic Assessments.
  • Ability to work varied hours with occasional travel required.
  • Must be self-motivated with good communication skills.
  • Must be organized and know regulatory record-keeping requirements.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-cultural, team-oriented environment.
  • Proficient skills in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
  • NFPA 70E certification is preferred.
  • In the performance of the duties of this job, the employee is required to travel, drive a motor vehicle between Palo Alto, CA and Hayward, CA. Travel could be up to 50% of the time

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree and/or equivalent experience/certification required. Demonstrated prior work experience relevant to this position. 
  • 5+ years in field and managing other people is required

Physical Requirements

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear. 
  • The employee is occasionally required to walk, climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. 
  • The employee must frequently lift and move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. 
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus
