Role Summary:

Build and lead a high performing, diverse, and passionate CapEx team to build the most capital efficient factories that ever existed. The CapEx team leads and executes commercial sourcing, development, and industrialization of capital equipment at all Rivian’s production facilities as well as all pilot, R&D, and lab facilities. Our mission is to accelerate Rivian’s growing footprint, manufacturing capabilities, and pace towards profitability by building, managing, and scaling a global capital equipment supply chain.​

Responsibilities: 

Build and lead a high performing CapEx team:

  • Lead a team of Global Supply Managers to accomplish company goals in a fast paced, demanding, and dynamic environment.
  • Identify, draw, and hire a diverse and complimentary pool of talented CapEx Professionals.
  • Guide and support the professional development of your team as individuals and as a whole.
  • Provide sufficient and frequent guidance and feedback to enable the team to deliver optimal results while maintaining sufficient space for each individual to lead his/her/their own space and express innovative ideas and individual personalities.

Enable scalability and advancement of the CapEx team:

  • Build, select, and continuously develop tools to foster continuous efficiency improvements.
  • Create and track performance against KPIs to enable company’s goals and priorities.
  • Partner with other Capex Leaders and team members to ensure maximum collaboration.
  • Continuously build, influence, and validate long range plan and budget to inform Company’s strategic direction.

Build the most capital efficient factories that have ever existed:

  • Shape and evolve RFx strategies.
  • Ensure optimal execution of programs while minimizing risk and cost.
  • Own the CapEx spend and risk forecast with the Finance team.
  • Be a strategic partner for the Manufacturing Engineering, Technical Program Management, Operations, and Construction & Facilities teams.
  • Partner with Program Management to support program requirements, execute against build milestones and track progress.
  • Manage and own supplier relationships through:
    • Creation and measurement of key performance indicators.
    • Conducting regular business reviews with top level leadership at each key supplier.
    • Driving strategic partnerships.
  • Build and maintain unique multi-tiered global supplier strategy based on understanding of supply base, market conditions, and technology roadmaps.
  • Drive cost and commercial value negotiations with detailed data-based analysis.
  • Steer contractual negotiations with suppliers executing Purchase Agreements and Statement of Works.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s and/or Advanced degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, or Business – preferred or similar work experience.
  • 2+ years of experience managing a team.
  • 8+ years of experience in manufacturing, operations, engineering, or supply chain.
  • Ability to build and scale a team with radical candor and ability to influence with and without direct authority.
  • Capable of working as both a leader and a member of a team across multiple cross functional disciplines, including construction, manufacturing engineering, factory design, product design, facilities, production, supply chain, finance, legal, etc.
  • Meticulous attention to detail with an ability to also step back and see the big picture.
  • Good interpersonal and communications skills, high level of integrity and emotional IQ.
  • An egoless attitude with a willingness to build new processes from the ground up.
  • Knowledgeable in sourcing and enabling high volume manufacturing lines.
  • Experience working and managing projects globally, and flexibility to travel.
  • Managed commercial relationships in an Automotive, Electronics or high-volume manufacturing business.
  • Structured: able to organize chaos through methodical framework and clear communication to achieve goals harmoniously.
  • Detail oriented: ability to become a subject matter expert in order to make informed decisions.
  • Problem solving: ability to ask the right people the right questions at the right time in the right way to further thought, optimize outcomes, and maintain a positive and collaborative working environment.
  • Results focused: demonstrate that follow through is as important as problem solving and idea generation.
