Please note this role does offer hybrid working, our model sets out a minimum 60% onsite / 40% home working split

Overview

The MBU is new structure within Tokamak Energy. We want to usher in the HTS era.

As a Magnets Manufacturing Technician, you will be responsible for the manufacturing of superconducting magnets, tooling and jigs with a focus on process and product safety, quality and repeatability.

Responsibilities

• Perform a combination of tasks including coil winding, coil assembly, bonding components together using various materials, assemble tooling, soldering and similar operations, with the use of hand and power tools.
• Work closely with manufacturing engineers, providing insights, feedback, whilst troubleshooting manufacturing process challenges.
• Maintain accurate records of manufacturing processes, modifications and in-process inspection results, adhering to company’s documentation standards.
• Maintain accuracy, thoroughness and neatness during the manufacturing process.
• Maintain a clean and organised work area.

Requirements

• Previous experience in soldering, general assembly and use of hand tools, modification or manufacture of components using hand fitting techniques or machine tools.
• Exceptional attention to detail with a commitment to producing high-quality products.
• Proficient in reading and interpreting engineering drawings and specifications.
• Experience in the use of dimensional and electrical test and measurement equipment.
• Ability to work effectively within a collaborative team and fast-paced R&D environment, communicating ideas and issues clearly.
• Ability to troubleshoot and resolve manufacturing related challenges.

Desirable

• Experience of working with superconducting materials and coil winding tooling is desirable
• Experience in HTS /LTS coil manufacturing is desirable

This job includes the following hazards or safety-critical activities which will require successful pre-employment health screening through our occupational health service before the successful candidate will be allowed to start work:

• Work in hot or cold environments
• Regular manual handling
• Work with cryogenic fluids including liquid nitrogen
• Working with or in the vicinity of equipment that produces high magnetic fields
• Working with materials that are managed under the control of substances hazardous to health regulations (COSHH)
