Magnet Instrumentation Technician

The MBU is new structure within Tokamak Energy. We want to usher in the HTS era.

This is a hands-on technical role within the MBU focused on assembly, operation and maintenance of the instrumentation systems used within the MBU group.

Requirements

Responsibilities

• Fabricate and assemble instrumentation and associated systems (electrical rack assembly, electrical wiring, cryostat assembly, etc)
• Work hands-on with various magnet systems and their associated instrumentation and control electronics.
• Perform day-to-day operation of various HTS magnet systems.
• Perform day-to-day maintenance and basic diagnostics.
• Conduct safety analysis and safety case individual lab activities.
• Liaise with stakeholders internal to Tokamak Energy.

Requirements

• Demonstrated experience of working in a relevant laboratory or industrial setting.
• Basic understanding of electronics, ability to read wiring and electrical schematics.
• Experience in electrical assembly (soldering, wiring assembly, etc.)
• Willingness to work ‘hands on’ in a laboratory setting.
• High degree of self-organisation, motivation, and commitment to working to defined timescales.
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to work in a mixed team of engineers, physicists, designers, and technicians designing innovative and complex devices.

Additional desirable experience:

• Relevant science or engineering degree
• Experience of working with cryogenics, superconducting magnet systems or other high-magnetic field environments
• Experience of working with fine wiring
• Basic understanding of noise levels, ground loops, etc
• Experience in working with optical instrumentation
• Experience or qualification in working with low-voltage (230 V AC).
