Role Summary:

The Logistics Analyst, Inbound Planning is a key function supporting the logistics teams at Rivian responsible for delivering components for Production and Service locations. At Rivian, logistics planning and operations include all modes of transportation (parcel, truck, air, and ocean) domestic and international.  In this role you will be responsible for:

  • Advanced logistics network design for all inbound suppliers with a focus on international logistics.
  • Logistics cost savings against current forecast thru optimization and/or driving accountability to plan.
  • Defining and maintaining lane level shipment plans within key Rivian platforms including Plan for Every Part (PFEP), Transportation Management System (TMS), and SAP.
  • Support future logistics cost models and ad-hoc studies on various tactical and strategic initiatives, reporting out on recommendations and results.

In short, this position will drive logistics execution by engineering optimal lane plans pre-schedule release, proactively managing plans against forecasted volumes, ensuring shipping calendar and transit align to MRP, measuring performance to drive cost savings, and leading future model cost analysis.

The ideal candidate understands the impact logistics planning has on end-to-end shipment execution. Candidate should be able to communicate complex issues and ideas to a variety of audiences, manage competing priorities through effective communication and documentation, and work effectively with cross-functional team members and external partners. We’re looking for an organized self-starter with an analytical mindset and hands on logistics engineering experience. Candidate must be willing to roll-up sleeves and dive into the weeds.  This role is both strategic and tactical.  

Responsibilities

  • Analyst for advanced logistics network design, optimization of inbound and return logistics, load density, frequency analysis, mode optimization, and logistics cost savings.
  • Support the development and enhancement of current Logistics Cost Model Forecasting and Metrics 
  • Perform ad-hoc studies on various tactical and strategic initiatives, reporting out on recommendations and results
  • Define methods and procedures to maintain lane level plans within plan for every part (PFEP), Transportation Management System (TMS), and ensure SAP aligned to ship calendar and transit.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to implement logistics plans between suppliers, carriers, plant/PDC, and material planning. Partner with purchasing to ensure carrier coverage. Support and develop KPIs to improve shipment execution against plan.
  • Build and maintain the tools used to model logistics cost, calculate utilization, and maintain standard work against logistics plans (Alteryx and Tableau).
  • Define transit standards and measure performance against.
  • Serve as subject matter expert for lane implementation and partner with IT and Logistics Program Management in planning systems strategy and process. See beyond the status quo and be cutting edge.
  • Analyze and report out on inbound freight spend.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally on vendor selection, KPI measurement, and logistics process development. Own the role, and craft best in class strategies and process for exponential growth.
  • Provide a customer-oriented approach to support the internal customers.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Logistics, Data Analytics, Engineering, Supply Chain or related.
  • 3+ years of experience in the automotive/operational logistics industry.
  • Future model planning experience preferred.
  • Experience with Data visualization tools (Tableau, PowerBI) and data transformation tools (Alteryx) - Knowledge of SQL, R and/or Python is a plus.
  • Experience creating and optimizing logistics plans and implementing them with carriers and suppliers and managing change cross-functionally between logistics ops and production control
  • Hands-on experience working with Transportation Management System (TMS), SAP, and Plan for Every Part (PFEP).
  • In-depth understanding of logistics’ relationships with other parts of the automotive ecosystem.
  • Ability to develop and interpret data to drive execution and decision-making.
  • Ability to travel up to 20% of the time.

Salary Range/Hourly Rate for California Based Applicants: [$85,000 - $98,000] (actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location, and other factors permitted by law).
