The role:

  • Objective for Quality Engineer is to become familiar with the new Product / Parts and Assembly Processes that will be used to build vehicles.
  • Working on resolving the quality problems for production validation builds and product audit issues identified by the Product Quality Evaluation Manager.
  • Support plant core teams during their production Builds in problem solving, identifying error proofing opportunities and developing Product Quality Standards
  • Review design for manufacturing robustness and work on the issues to drive improvement.
  • Participate in machinery and equipment buyoff to support product quality.
  • Implement the PFMEAs, error proofing, control plans and process capability. 
  • Supervise a team of Quality Launch Engineer(s) (QLE) and Quality Engineers (QEs)
  • Collaborate closely with engineering, manufacturing and supply chain teams to clearly define quality acceptance standards and specifications based on the Voice of Customer.
  • Validate and characterize new processes, equipment, measurements gages and fixtures for production implementation focused on damage-free.
  • Create detailed manufacturing instructions to document quality critical characteristics.
  • Support on designing production and inspection workstations for quality.
  • Constant work with the Quality Control Management to work on reducing and eliminating defects contained on the single agenda for quality.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining our quality strategy through a continuous improvement mindset and flawless action execution.
  • Manage and own all quality metrics reporting and publishing, as well as presenting data and improvement planning to the plant leadership including associated action plans and convergence programs.
  • Create and manage Control Plans and auditing strategies based on risk assessments and data from the factory and field.
  • Perform completed vehicle audits and partner with issue owners on improvement activity.
  • Drive product design improvements back to Design Engineering and retrofit into PFMEA.
  • Conduct supplier reviews to check and confirm key process control plans and gaging strategies to prevent issues potentially missed through launch process.
  • Qualifications & Skills:

  • Master’s degree in Engineering and 8+ years of equivalent experience required in the automotive Industry.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability to build outstanding teams and interface well with senior management.
  • Knowledge of Continuous Improvement, Kaizen, complex problem solving and Six Sigma process.
  • Capability to implement and drive a quality operating system within the Quality Control department.
  • Experience methodizing production workstations for ergonomics and efficiency.
  • Ability to create improvement plans for quality with productive areas to achieve desired results.
  • Strong written and verbal skills as well as organizational and program management capabilities.
  • Strong knowledge of MS Office tools (MS-Project, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Visio).
  • Creative, energetic, self-motivated and highly organized.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced office and plant floor environment with an eye for accuracy and attention to details.
  • Critical management skills with a high level of initiative and sound judgement.
  • Solid communication skills, both verbal and written.
