About the role

Plenty is looking for a motivated Industrial Engineer responsible for reviewing and improving production processes, inventory control, material flow, ergonomics and food safety and sanitation programs . This role requires a solid understanding of Industrial Engineering fundamentals. It is critical for a successful applicant to solve problems using first principles analysis, and exercise aggressive design optimization. This position will join our Continuous Improvement and Quality team. These combined goals will give Plenty’s produce global reach at an accessible price, leading to increased produce consumption and raising the quality of living around the world. You will be part of a passionate and dynamic team that is developing new technology from the ground up.

What you'll do

  • Applies engineering techniques to design, develop, test and evaluate integrated systems for managing industrial production processes including operation of automated equipment,  human work factors, quality control, logistics and material flow, cost analysis and production coordination.
  • Applies statistical methods and performs mathematical calculations to improve and model manufacturing processes, staff requirements, and production standards 
  • Coordinates quality control objectives and activities to resolve production problems, maximize product reliability and minimize cost.
  • Drafts and designs layout of equipment, materials and workspace to illustrate maximum efficiency, using CAD. Ensures design meets organizational and production goals.
  • Facilitates Continuous Improvement interventions (KAIZEN events), activities and employee involvement teams throughout the organization.
  • Perform time analysis on processes and come up with strategies to minimize product changeover times and cycle time.
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing, Sustaining, Process, and Construction teams to design and improve lineside layouts and processes. 
  • Serves as a continuous improvement agent. Provides leadership, coaching, and training in Lean thinking, Lean production, and 6 Sigma.

What you'll bring to the table

  • 2+ years of industrial, manufacturing, or mechanical engineering experience with emphasis on material flow/supply chain/process improvement (internship experience will be considered).
  • BS or MS Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering and/or equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrated leadership and ability to drive projects with diverse teams in a high-volume manufacturing environment.
  • Experience quantitatively solving ambiguous problems at a systems level.
  • Experience in manufacturing / material handling equipment design/implementation.
  • Experience with data visualization/analysis software such as Tableau, SQL
  • Some experience with discrete event simulation software (ARENA, FlexSim, etc)
  • Some experience with manufacturing operations simulation software (Delmia, Technomatix…etc.)

Food & Safety Requirements

  • Comply with all Plant, State and Federal OSHA, EPA, FDA, HACCP, and SQF regulations
  • All employees must show proof of COVID vaccination before starting work, other than in limited circumstances where the law requires an exception
  • All applicants must be 18 years or older to apply
  • Make sure Equipment design is of a material suitable for food safety and designed in a way that is smooth and easily cleanable
  • Comply with GMP/GAPS in the Facility
  • Conduct monitoring activities to assure finished product comply with food safety and quality specifications
  • Assist in the maintenance of Food Safety and Quality system
