About the role

Plenty is looking for a Health and Safety Manager to join our Compliance team. In this role, you will be responsible for developing and implementing Plenty’s safety programs to minimize the risk of work-related accidents and ensure a  culture where employees are aware of and enthusiastically follow safe work practices. Key responsibilities include policy and program development, monitoring employees, contractors and third-party vendors for safety culture and compliance. Reporting to the Senior Health & Safety Manager, with dotted-line reporting to the site General Manager, you will help employees work safely and become a resource for managers, supervisors and employees on Health and Safety priorities. As the Safety and Health Manager, you will also implement, support, and execute Plenty’s EHS and COVID-19 programs. We are looking for a collaborator who is mission-oriented, organized, proactive, data-driven, has a high-level of personal accountability and can balance competing priorities at once.

What you'll do

  • EHS Site Support
    • Lead the Site Safety Committee where observed hazards, near misses and incidents are discussed, solutions identified and opportunities for communication on current safety topics are provided
    • Develop and direct emergency response and response planning, being a primary resource for employees and the company during emergency events, including but not limited to fires, earthquakes, personnel injuries and chemical releases
    • Lead or participate in incident investigations to help determine containment, causation, solution and verification of implemented solutions using plenty’s Root Cause Analysis (RCA) process
    • Apply knowledge of Health & Safety principles and regulations to review equipment, ensuring that new or modified equipment meets team and food safety standards
    • Coordinate or conduct Health and Safety training courses which meet the regulatory and safety culture requirements of the site
    • Maintain site Health & Safety compliance documentation including, but not limited to, chemical inventories, SDS sheets, CUPA information and Cal-OSHA logs
    • Provide guidance to and interface with vendors handling Hazardous Waste disposal,interact with local and state regulatory agency representatives to provide requested information and maintain positive relationships
    • Interact with insurance representatives (Claims adjusters, loss control representatives, brokers) to provide requested information, ensure proper handling of Workers’ Compensation claims and negotiate compliance with recommendations
    • Manage the site Permit To Work process to ensure vendors’ activities are not harmful to Plenty’s employees or their own staff
    • Organize and support the Senior Manager EH&S in maintaining EHS programs and policies across sites via ETQ and Change Control 
    • Provide a safe workplace by inspecting emergency response equipment and assisting during periodic audits
    • Assist in the development of training matrices/guidelines and implementation of the hands-on training process 
    • Complete miscellaneous tasks and data collection as required to support the continuous improvement of all functional groups
  • Lead and continue to implement Plenty’s COVID Program and Policies 
    • Develop a strong understanding of CDC, OSHA, WHO, federal/state/local COVID-19 policies and translate them into Plenty’s internal COVID-19 Policies along with guidance and approval from Legal, People Ops and Safety leadership  
  • Travel up to 25% of the time

What you’ll bring to the table

  • Associate’s or Bachelor's degree in Safety Studies, Human Factors, Environmental Studies, Chemistry, Biology, Engineering or a similar field and 4+ years of relevant work experience
  • Excellent project management/coordination/organizational skills and ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Excellent collaboration and interpersonal skills to partner closely with cross-functional teams
  • Calm under pressure and a rational thinker who responds quickly to complex and urgent situations
  • Ability to maintain order and control in a crisis
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate with employees and outside vendors
  • Flexibility and adaptability; ability to successfully work under pressure, respond to shifting needs and manage multiple tasks at one time; a willingness to pitch in wherever needed

Food safety requirements

  • Comply with all Plant, State and Federal OSHA, EPA, FDA, HACCP, and SQF regulations
  • All employees must show proof of COVID vaccination before starting work, other than in limited circumstances where the law requires an exception
