Head of Research & Development

Location: Herøya/Oslo

Contract: Permanent

The Head of R&D will play a pivotal role in shaping and executing the research and development strategy for our organization, aligning with the overall business objectives. This leadership position requires a strategic thinker with a strong background in mechanical or chemical engineering, capable of overseeing multiple R&D sites and fostering innovation in syngas and related technologies.

Key responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership and Oversight:
    • Develop and implement a comprehensive R&D strategy that aligns with company objectives.
    • Coordinate R&D activities across multiple sites to ensure consistency and efficiency.
    • Allocate resources effectively to maximize the impact of R&D initiatives.

  • Data Management and Analysis:
    • Establish robust data analysis routines to extract valuable insights from R&D data.
    • Develop systems for efficient and secure data collection and storage.
    • Ensure data integrity, quality, and compliance with regulations.

  • Product Expertise and Innovation:
    • Maintain a deep understanding of company products and their applications.
    • Innovate R&D solutions tailored to the needs of clients, particularly in syngas.
    • Evaluate emerging technologies to enhance products and processes.

  • Collaboration and Partnerships:
    • Build strong relationships with commercial and research partners to drive collaborative projects.
    • Facilitate knowledge exchange among internal and external stakeholders.
    • Identify opportunities for technology licensing and partnerships.

  • Additional Responsibilities:
    • Recruit, develop, and retain a high-performing R&D team.
    • Manage intellectual property related to R&D activities.
    • Ensure compliance with industry regulations and standards.
    • Identify and mitigate risks associated with R&D projects.

Ideal candidate

  • Required:
    • Advanced degree (Master's or higher) in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering.
    • Proven experience in conducting physical experiments at a pilot scale or larger.
    • Experience in managing large-scale research laboratories.
    • Proficiency in data analysis and interpretation.
    • Strong understanding of flow physics and pyrochemistry.
    • Knowledge of process engineering principles and applications.
    • Familiarity with syngas or related gasses.

  • Preferred:
    • Experience with syngas separation and anaerobic fermentation.
    • Background in dynamic, smaller-team environments typical of startups.
