Job Summary: As a Hardware Security Test Engineer, you will be responsible for assessing the security of our hardware systems and components. You will work closely with our engineering teams to identify vulnerabilities, design and implement security tests, review hardware designs, create Threat and Risk Assessments (TARA). This position requires expertise in hardware security, including secure boot, debug interfaces, chip-level assessment, side-channel analysis, fault injection, wireless protocol analysis, and TARA creation.

Salary Range: The compensation range for this position is specific to the locations listed below and is the range Lucid reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for the position taking into account the wide variety of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including job-related knowledge; skillset; experience, education and training; certifications; and other relevant business and organizational factors.

· California (Bay Area) - $150,000 - $195,000

Responsbilities:

  • Assess Hardware Debug Interface.
  • Evaluate and analyze the security of hardware debug interfaces such as JTAG, SWD, and other debugging mechanisms.
  • Develop and execute test plans to identify vulnerabilities and weaknesses in debug interfaces.
  • Collaborate with the development team to implement security enhancements.
  • Secure Boot Assessment:
  • Conduct secure boot assessments to ensure the integrity and authenticity of firmware and bootloader components.
  • Identify and mitigate potential vulnerabilities in the secure boot process.
  • Assist in the development of secure boot test strategies and best practices.
  • Chip-Level Assessment:
  • Perform thorough chip-level security assessments, including side-channel analysis and fault injection.
  • Identify and analyze potential vulnerabilities at the hardware level.
  • Develop and implement countermeasures to protect against hardware-based attacks.
  • Wireless Protocol Analysis:
  • Analyze wireless communication protocols such as Ultra-Wideband (UWB) for security weaknesses.
  • Conduct penetration testing and vulnerability assessments of wireless communication systems.
  • Provide recommendations for improving the security of wireless protocols.
  • Cellular Base Station Setup:
  • Set up and configure cellular base stations for analyzing cellular client devices.
  • Perform testing and analysis of cellular communication security.
  • Collaborate with the team to enhance the security of cellular communication systems.
  • Review Hardware Designs:
  • Review hardware designs and architectures for security vulnerabilities.
  • Provide input and recommendations to improve the security of hardware components.
  • Collaborate with hardware design teams to implement security measures from the early design stages.
  • Threat and Risk Assessment (TARA):
  • Create Threat and Risk Assessments (TARAs) for hardware components and systems.
  • Identify potential threats, vulnerabilities, and associated risks.
  • Develop mitigation strategies and risk management plans.
  • Security Testing and Reporting:
  • Develop and execute security test plans and methodologies.
  • Document and report security findings, vulnerabilities, and recommended fixes.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure timely remediation of security issues.
  • Research and Development:
  • Stay updated with the latest hardware security trends and emerging threats.
  • Contribute to the development of new security testing tools and techniques.
  • Participate in research projects to advance hardware security within the organization.
  • Compliance and Standards:
  • Ensure hardware security testing processes align with industry standards and best practices.
  • Assist in compliance assessments and audits related to hardware security.
  • Qualifications:

  • 6+ years experience and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 3 years experience
  • Proven experience in hardware security testing and assessment.
  • Proficiency in hardware security analysis tools and methodologies.
  • Strong understanding of secure boot processes and debugging interfaces.
  • Familiarity with side-channel analysis and fault injection techniques.
  • Experience with wireless communication protocols, including UWB.
  • Knowledge of cellular communication systems and base station setup.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
