About the company:

Loam works with 4.5 billion years of evolution to solve the climate crisis. Microbes have changed the composition of our atmosphere through earth’s history. At Loam, we are ensuring these organisms can do it again. Through a better understanding of how microbes influence the carbon cycle, we can create new planetary-scale opportunities for carbon sequestration and improve agricultural productivity.

About Loam:

At Loam, we have the earth in our hands. As a team of scientists, farmers, and entrepreneurs, we are on a mission to revolutionise agriculture and address climate change. Through our cutting-edge microbial technology, we are enhancing soil health, boosting crop yields, and sequestering carbon to create a sustainable future for farming. We are committed to empowering farmers and promoting regenerative practices that benefit both the environment and their bottom line.

As a fast-growing agricultural startup, Loam offers a dynamic and collaborative work environment where innovation and passion thrive. We embrace diversity and believe that our collective expertise and shared commitment can make a significant impact on the global agricultural landscape.

Join us on this exciting journey as we transform agriculture and build a sustainable future together.

About the Role:

We are looking for a highly skilled Geospatial Scientist with specialised experience in soil carbon analysis to lead our carbon project mapping and soil carbon sampling initiatives. This role is critical in developing our approach from the ground up, overseeing the design and implementation of our commercial scale soil carbon mapping and modelling capabilities, and ensuring our projects are underpinned by the most accurate and effective geospatial data and analysis techniques available.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and refine methodologies for conducting comprehensive carbon project mapping, ensuring high-resolution geospatial data is effectively utilised to outline project areas.
  • Design and implement soil carbon sampling protocols that accurately measure soil carbon levels and variability within project areas, employing both traditional soil core collection and innovative modelling and remote sensing techniques
  • Apply advanced geospatial and statistical analysis techniques to model soil carbon distributions, informing strategies for carbon sequestration and project planning.
  • Lead the pioneering effort to design and oversee the creation of commercial scale predictive models for soil carbon, enabling dynamic simulation and analysis of soil carbon sequestration potential and changes over time.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, external partners, and stakeholders to ensure the integration of geospatial science and soil carbon expertise into all aspects of project planning and implementation.
  • Stay abreast of the latest research, tools, and technologies in geospatial science and soil carbon measurement, continuously seeking ways to improve our methodologies and capabilities.

Requirements

  • Master’s or Ph.D. in Geospatial Science, Environmental Science, Soil Science, or a related field, with a strong focus on statistics
  • Demonstrated experience in geospatial analysis, particularly in the context of environmental or agricultural projects, with a strong foundation in soil carbon dynamics.
  • Proficiency in geospatial software and tools, as well as statistical analysis applications.
  • Experience in developing and managing digital twin models or similar complex simulations in an environmental or agricultural context.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to lead interdisciplinary projects and communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Innovative thinker with a track record of applying new technologies and methodologies to solve complex problems.

Benefits

  • Fast-growing start-up with many opportunities for capacity building and career development
  • Work alongside leading scientists and innovators in an international organisation
  • Enjoy an inclusive and supportive culture
  • Competitive salary based on experience
