The Financial Controller (UK) is responsible for the UK and EMEA entity day to day financial accounting, transactional processing, month-end controls and reviews, and cash and working capital management. The role also leads on group-wide project accounting and revenue recognition, assists the Group Financial Controller with group accounting, intercompany trading and performance reporting, as well as leading the finance business partnering activities for the group.

Your key focus will be: 

  • Manage the UK/EMEA financial control function and ensure adherence to policies and procedures.  
  • Responsibility for a team of 2 
  • Lead all aspects of UK/EMEA financial accounting:  
  • Maintain accurate and complete books of account to defined standards and in accordance with the Group’s accounting policies, structured to enable optimal performance reporting.  
  • Manage statutory reporting requirements and audit procedures for assigned entities 

 

  • Implement and oversee robust month-end control processes for UK/EMEA financial reporting, covering both local and group reporting requirements, including the following:  
    • Capital expenditure and fixed asset accounting. Inventory accounting in conjunction with procurement.  
    • Tracking of project time, materials and expenditure.  
    • Intercompany transactions.  
    • Month-end manual adjustments, including review of accruals and prepayments.  
    • Reconciliation between local and group reporting, if applicable. 

 

  • Administration and management of the UK & EMEA working capital (accounts receivable, accounts payable, inventories)  
  • Appropriate authorisation for all purchases.  
  • Review aging of receivables and assist with recovery of outstanding receivables. 
  • Approval of sales and purchase invoices.  
  • Cash administration and management:  
    • Control UK/EMEA banking arrangements, transactions and foreign exchange.  
    • Work with the FP&A function to prepare cash flow forecasts and plan forward currency and exchange needs 

 

  • Finance business partnering:  
    • Prepare, validate and review month-to-date and year-to-date results versus plan;  
    • Follow up with business leadership in readiness for performance reporting and analysis; and  
    • Generally assist other activity groups / functions with their financial interpretation, planning and understanding 
    • Manage UK/EMEA tax compliance in conjunction with external advisers (payroll taxes, sales taxes, corporation/income taxes, withholding taxes).  
    • Review the UK/EMEA payrolls in conjunction with human resources and outsourced providers. 
    • Drive the continuous improvement and development of our ERP solution, and integrity of financial reporting.  
    • Act as key point of contact for any UK/EMEA employee queries regarding finance processes. 
    • Assist with the Group Accounting as required.  
    • Provide support as required to the FP&A function.  
    • Coach and develop the UK/EMEA finance team. 
  •  Group Project Accounting & Revenue Recognition:  
    • Develop a deep understanding of individual projects and the group’s project portfolio.  
    • Liaise and collaborate closely with the project control and project management teams. 
    • Take full ownership of global revenue and project accounting. Continually develop effective and efficient transactional processes and controls. Ensure proper matching.  
    • Apply and enforce the group’s revenue recognition and project accounting policies. Validate project stage of completion estimates.  
    • Manage global customer billings and credit control.  
    • Coordinate the annual project budget inputs and monthly project reforecasting inputs. 
    • Manage project-related intercompany transactions.  
    • Lead the process for the preparation and submission of grant funded project claims, including intra and end of project audits.  
    • Manage and develop the group’s time and expense tracking systems and processes. 

Requirements

To be successful in this role you should have a combination of the below knowledge, skills, and experience: 

  • Extensive complex industrial project accounting experience with excellent knowledge and practical application of revenue recognition, and long-term project accounting standards (IFRS). 
  • Qualified accountant with minimum 8 years’ experience, with a strong technical knowledge and financial acumen. ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualification preferred, with a robust technical accounting knowledge and strong general working knowledge of IFRS.  
  • Well-versed in the development and maintenance of strong internal control environments and systems-led financial operations. 
  • A high level of motivation, with the energy and drive to “make things happen” and grow.  
  • Pride in providing high quality, accurate and timely information, with a close attention to detail and always looking to improve the clarity and value of outputs.  
  • Demonstrable experience of developing strong working relationships with stakeholders at all levels, through a consistent, confident and open communication style. °Accomplished verbal and written communication skills.  
  • Strong Microsoft 365 skills
