What You Will Be Doing:

Helion energy is looking for a Plasma Diagnostics Scientist to lead the effort of 3D mapping the ion/electron distribution within the formation section of Helion’s fusion generators before an FRC is formed.

You Will:

  • Complete the design of a suite of plasma diagnostics, working with a team of scientists, designers, analysts, and engineers
  • Integrate technical input from experts in the wider Helion team to ensure plasma diagnostics can support Helion’s operational and scientific goals
  • Work with Helion’s procurement team and external suppliers to source diagnostic components and sub-assemblies, prioritizing speed and efficiency
  • Plan and oversee the assembly, installation, calibration, and commissioning for plasma diagnostics
  • Provide expertise that helps build a core competency in pre-ionization plasma measurements that can help deliver future fusion devices optimized for power production

About You:

  • D. or M.S. in physics or aerospace engineering, or related field with relevant experience in plasmas
  • Experience in a laboratory environment with hands-on experience with plasma probes
  • Demonstrated record of utilizing data from diagnostic instruments to accomplish research goals or achieve mission objectives

Desired:

  • Deep understanding of plasma physics and plasma diagnostic principles
  • Experience participating in the design of a new or upgraded instrument package that analyzes low density pre-ionization plasmas
  • Developed diagnostics to study fully and partially ionized plasmas, in the range of 10^16 – 10^19 m^3, such as physical probes like Langmuir or double/triple probe and optical diagnostics, such as interferometry and laser induced fluorescence

 

Per Washington Equal Pay and Opportunity Act the range for this position is $95k-$175k. Actual salary is based on education, experience, and other qualifying skill sets.
