Rivian Electrical R&D Labs are the backbone of GSD (Getting Stuff Done!) for our Hardware teams. Rivian is continuing to integrate major electrical systems and components and rapidly growing vertically. Rivian is seeking a world-class manager to serve in the position of Electronics Lab Manager to manage the day-to-day operational activities of a working product development lab. This person will own prototype and product delivery projects, infrastructure development, material logistics, resource management and development, and equipment maintenance, to ensure that our labs are operating and at peak performance while minimizing downtime.

 

Responsibilities: 

  • Lead laboratory operations for the Electronics R&D Development Lab
  • Support and manage lab construction projects with Facilities to deliver outcomes on time and within budget constraints.
  • Develop, deploy, and maintain general lab processes, data acquisition strategy, and quality development processes across all lab locations
  • Working with internal managers, Product Design, Test, and software to develop and manage the 3-5 year lab outlook and roadmap.
  • Monitor industry best practices and integrate solutions that benefit Rivian product development and testing teams
  • Provide technical direction to lab resources and guide the team through project implementation
  • Provide resource capability, data acquisition, and facility improvement ideas to keep lab capabilities ahead of customer needs
  • Monitor lab financials for all areas to provide input to lab metrics and look for cost savings and optimization opportunities
  • Work with management to identify core proficiencies to build out opportunities
  • Create and maintain an organizational culture that encourages innovation, collaboration, excitement/commitment, a sense of urgency toward goals, and continuous improvement. Challenges team members to question the status quo and ensure that all aspects of the design, development, and support process are optimal for the industrial/commercial market.
  • Designs and directs the work of the team. Selects, coaches and develops staff. Sets clear expectations to inspire and motivate the team. Manages performance-- recognizing achievement, providing feedback, and administering progressive discipline when necessary.
  • Engage in and lead lab operation planning processes, recruitment, retention, talent acquisition, development, and mentoring
  • Develop lab talent throughout the “lab community" by identifying, training, and implementing growth plans for employees

 

Qualifications: 

  • BS+ in Engineering, Business, or Industrial Technology or 10+ years of related experience in the operations function within a similar working environment
  • 7+ years of progressively increasing management bringing high-performing Electronics Technician Teams
  • Experience in prototype electronics development, electronics testing, rework and repair of PCBAs, and assembly of electronic assemblies to required standards
  • Experience Implementing OSHA Safety guidelines with EHS, ESD Control, and Hazardous Material Control processes
  • Knowledge of IPC 610/620/7711, J-STD, and other assembly/rework and inspection standards.
  • Experience with ordering, setting up, and maintaining equipment is Required
  • Knowledge of field management, returns, and warranty processes
  • Experience with Setting up new lab spaces
  • Self-motivated, organized, and an effective communicator
  • Proven Organizational and Problem-Solving Skills to meet deadlines
  • Ability to quickly pivot between tasks and prioritize simultaneous tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to lift 30lbs
  • Light Travel May be Required (~20%)
