About the company:

ICON is a construction technology company developing robotic and AI systems to lower the cost and increase the speed and quality of construction to tackle the global housing crisis and prepare to build on other worlds. As a pioneer of large-scale 3D printing, ICON continually sets new standards for delivering resilient, dignified housing and recently unveiled a radical new robotic printer that enables multi-story construction, a new low-carbon building material, a digital catalog for residential architecture, and an AI architect for home design and construction. Using proprietary 3D printing robotics, software and advanced materials, ICON is shifting the paradigm of homebuilding on Earth and beyond. ICON is seeking an Electro-mechanical Systems Technician to help shape the future of off-planet construction.

In this role, you will build, assemble, modify, and test hardware that ranges from prototype to ground support to flight. You will work hands-on with mechanical, electrical, optical, and thermal/fluid systems, collaborating closely with engineers to deliver high-reliability aerospace hardware that meets stringent program requirements. This role is based locally in ICON’s Austin, TX laboratories, and will report to the Director, Off Planet Robotic Systems.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist in the setup and test of these novel systems ranging from initial subsystem benchtop testing through system-level environmental testing (such as TVAC, vibe, EMI/EMC, etc).

  • Read, interpret, and execute work instructions varying from released detailed schematics and drawings to “whiteboard concepts” provided by engineers who will rely on the technician's judgment and follow-up questions to fully realize a rapid prototype or repair.

  • Document work performed from all stages of assembly, integration, and test.

  • Collaborate with engineering and manufacturing to suggest improvements for design, manufacturing, assembly, and test

  • Assist engineers in system troubleshooting, debugging, and reworking as needed.

  • Design and implement fixtures, tooling, and low-level prototypes to aid in development.

  • Operate and maintain lab equipment (including calibrated equipment) and tools.

  • Operate various material handling equipment systems including forklifts and overhead cranes as required.

  • Coordinate operations with other organizations within the company (facilities, other engineering/technician groups, etc)

  • Contribute to a safe, compliant work environment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or GED.

  • Experience in manufacturing, aerospace, machine integration, or another relevant field.

  • Ability to interpret engineering models, drawings, specifications, written work instructions, and test procedures.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Proficient with hand tools (screwdrivers, pliers, torque wrenches, crimpers, cable tools).

  • Basic computer skills such as Windows, G-suite, etc.

  • Ability to work in confined spaces for extended periods of time.

  • Physical effort may be required for the handling of supplies or materials (up to 50 lb unassisted).

 PREFERRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • Hands-on technician experience in aerospace, defense, automotive, or high-reliability manufacturing.

  • Experience with multi-axis robotic systems.

  • Solder and harnessing experience (certifications a plus).

  • Experience in aerospace environmental test (such as TVAC, vibration, EMI/EMC)

  • Familiarity with cleanroom operations and preventative maintenance.

  • Familiarity with working with a quality management system (AS9100 or equivalent)

  • Industry certification, trade school training and/or degree in a related field.

  • CAD experience, preferably SolidWorks
