What You Will Be Doing

ChargePoint is looking for a creative and versatile Engineering Director to lead UK office and create an engineering culture in which ChargePoint’s AC and DC chargers meet high design, development, and production quality. The role will operate in a cross-functional role to drive many aspects of ChargePoint’s EV charger products, including hardware, test, software, and QA.

What You Will Bring to ChargePoint

  • Act as a key member of the company’s leadership team, influencing the overall technical direction of the company.
  • Provide local support to engineering team members, working closely with remote Hardware and Software engineering managers to understand resource requirements and priorities.
  • Ensure ChargePoint’s world-class product development process is followed and reported throughout the organisation.
  • Closely collaborate with Operations on supply chain, manufacturing, and quality management processes.
  • Coach and support the hardware, software, mechanical, and regulatory engineering team stationed at UK office in the development of ChargePoint’s products.
  • Develop the UK Office annual budget based on operational and financial targets.
  • Monitor the office’s operating budget to ensure expenditure is aligned to budget allocations. Address budget variances with engineering lead.
  • Recruit world class engineers to enhance ChargePoint’s global reach.
  • Establish and oversee annual review process with all the engineers and support their career development.
  • Lead, coach, and mentor direct reports to foster personal growth and teamwork.
  • Enable engineering employees to pursue relationships with the academic community to enhance technology and recruiting pipeline.
  • Engage across company leadership on engineering strategic and operational matters.
  • Deliver hardware designed to meet and exceed highest global standards in category including successful/timely compliance and certification.
  • Maintain and foster a collaborative but challenging work environment.
  • Maintain and build upon the reputation of the company’s hardware engineering group.
  • Support commercial team during hosted customer visits to UK campus.

Requirements

  • B.S. required (M.S.) in engineering or technical management.
  • 5+ years engineering management in cross functional/matrix organisations.
  • Familiarity with the whole electrical equipment development process including environmental, reliability, compliance (UL and IEC standards), and safety requirements for electrical equipment.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, including executive presentations.
  • Experience leading x-functional teams: Electrical, mechanical, regulatory, software, and test.
  • Deep understanding in product design phase gate process and implementation.
  • Proficiency with the Atlassian product suite including Confluence and Jira
  • Experience in high power electronics equipment in charging industry is a plus.
  • Knowledge of EV charging standards a plus.

Travel

  • Up to 10% domestic and international travel may be expected for this position.
