Role Summary: 

Working closely with the Global Trade and Trade Compliance team, you are responsible for developing, leading and executing the trade compliance and indirect tax strategy and operations for Rivian in the EMEA region. 

As Rivian expands business operations across the EMEA Region, this role will be required to actively administer the creation, development and implementation of Rivian’s customs/VAT/international indirect tax systems that provide a sustainable and tax efficient environment for Rivian to distribute and sell its vehicles and products.  

 

Responsibilities: 

  • Develops and implements Rivian’s EMEA customs and indirect tax strategy to deliver sustainable value. 
  • Partners with the business to develop successful long-term strategic relationships by building awareness, providing training and advising on operations and transactions to achieve shared organizational objectives.
  • Develops and manages an EMEA Indirect Tax and Trade team, with responsibilities including but not limited to:  VAT compliance filings, Intrastat filings, Valuation, Country of Origin, Free Trade Agreements, Entry Audits, Bonded Warehouse, Export Controls, Metrics, EU Favorable Customs Procedures (e.g., AEO, PCC, CFSP), Desk Procedures, Broker Management and Training Development/Delivery;
  • Establishes an indirect tax customs risk and governance framework, optimizing the use of technology where appropriate and striving for continuous improvement.
  • Leads tax and trade controversy and policy matters, develops and maintains good relationships with tax and customs authorities, as well as all internal/external stakeholders.
  • Reviews new EMEA tax and customs legislation and advises on implications, ensuring updates of ERP systems, manuals and policies and updates relevant stakeholders.
  • Executes corporate trade compliance programs including compliance manuals, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs);
  • As a member of the Tax and Trade leadership team, contributes actively to the organizational development of the tax and customs functions, coaches and develops team members. 

 

Requirements: 

  • Strong customs and indirect tax expertise (excellence in European customs and VAT, good understanding in other jurisdictions, incl. US)
  • 10+ years of experience – Industry experience preferred ideally at a medium to large manufacturing company with a diverse global business, with automotive experience a bonus.
  • Relevant BA/BS degree required
  • Knowledge of export control regulations and control procedures
  • Ability to communicate effectively to employees and management of all levels and functions within the organization
  • Displays strong business acumen, analytical and strategic thinking capabilities
  • Highly organized; ability to think, prioritize and perform strategically in an ambiguous, fast-paced environment;
  • Experience with establishing customs and VAT programs and governance framework
  • Strong communication skills (both written and verbal), collaboration and negotiation skills (both internally and with external government bodies)
  • Experience with Integration Point software and SAP ERP is a plus.
