As a Data Engineer I at Pivot Bio, you will play a key role in making data actionable at all levels of the organization as part of our Data Operations / Data Platform team supporting company data functions. This person will interact with a variety of teams across the company to create and manage data through its lifecycle.
Responsibilities:
- Develop tools and processes that increase efficiency, integrity, and accuracy throughout the data lifecycle by writing and maintaining high-quality, robust, and well-documented code
- Develop, curate, and maintain data and data pipelines for product research and development efforts
- Design and implement normalized database and denormalized data warehouse schemas
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to facilitate quality data acquisition practices where needed
- Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback to peers
- Handle support requests and debug issues
- Help make data accessible to non-technical stakeholders through the creation of front-end tools and visualization dashboards
- Interact with fit-for-purpose software applications used for lab information management or agricultural trial management
Physical Demands:
- Job will involve mostly (95%) office work with occasional (5%) time spent in the field or in-person meetings to understand processes
- Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands, or fingers
- Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing
- Communicating with others to exchange information
Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelors degree in STEM with 2+ years of relevant experience in data engineering, data science, data stewardship and research or production agriculture or an equivalent amount of relevant experience.
- Proficiency with Python and SQL (R is a plus) with demonstrated experience (e.g. coursework or Github portfolio), experience with REST APIs, and manipulating databases in a user-oriented environment
- Experience navigating data ecosystems (e.g. databases, data lakes)
- Familiarity with data management infrastructure such as Databricks, Snowflake, AWS, or other pipeline management tools
- Strong attention to detail and orientation to process
- Great communication skills
- Travel up to 5% of the time for visits to field trial sites, customer sites
