What you will do:  

As a Control Systems Engineer II, you will focus on designing and building data acquisition and process control systems for chemical processing. These systems will integrate instrumentation, controls, plumbing, fluid power, and solids handling to enable novel electrochemical and metallurgical processes for clean iron production. 

Responsibilities include:

  • Participate in the electrical design, fabrication, and commissioning of automated equipment 
  • Develop, troubleshoot, and maintain instrumentation, control systems, and electrical equipment  
  • Assist in developing chemical process systems from concept to fully functional prototypes 
  • Specify and source appropriate process equipment and instrumentation to meet system design requirements with guidance  
  • Collaborate with team members to define requirements for design of test infrastructure and commercial prototypes 
  • Troubleshoot electrochemical systems and perform root cause analyses to improve existing systems 
  • Develop and maintain documentation, including design specifications, operating procedures, and safety protocols  
  • Read, understand, and comply with all workplace health and safety policies, safe work practices, and company policies and procedures 
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor 

What we need you to bring to the team:   

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, control systems engineering, automation engineering, or related field
  • 2+ years of experience in an industry setting working on electrical engineering, control systems engineering, automation engineering, or related projects (excluding internships, co-ops and other school projects)
  • Familiarity with high voltage and low voltage electrical design and troubleshooting
  • Experience designing, programming, commissioning, and troubleshooting control and data acquisition systems
  • Experience with instrumentation such as temperature, pressure, level, weight, and flow
  • Knowledge of industrial automation communication protocols, including Modbus, Profibus, Ethernet, RS485, and related standards
  • Programming experience in Python, JavaScript, C/C++, or equivalent languages
  • Familiarity with electrical safety practices and standards
  • Strong ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team environment
  • Ability to adapt quickly to changing processes, priorities, and responsibilities
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Experience with, or ability to quickly learn, Microsoft Office programs, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneDrive, and SharePoint
  • Develops professional expertise and applies company policies and procedures to resolve a variety of issues
  • Determines courses of action based on guidelines and modifies processes and methods as required
  • Works on problems of moderate scop,e which are often varied and routine, requiring analysis of multiple factors
  • Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action
  • Applies learned techniques and contributes to analysis and investigation to solve problems
  • Receives general instructions on new assignments and minimal instruction on day-to-day work
  • Builds productive internal and external working relationships to resolve mutual problems through collaboration
  • Provides standard professional advice and creates initial reports and analyses for review by experienced team professionals

 

What we want you to bring to the team:   

  • 3+ years of industry experience working on process control and data acquisition (excludes internships, co-ops, and other school projects)     
  • Experience programming PLCs and supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems  

Compensation:   

  • The anticipated starting pay range for this position is $90,000-$99,000 and may be more or less depending upon skills, experience, and education.
