​​This position will be responsible for all community relations and local government affairs at CFS. This is a new position at a high growth company that will report to the Head of Public Affairs and support the broader movement building team. It is part of a company effort to build a movement for fusion energy that will pave the way to bring clean commercial fusion energy to the world. The ideal candidate has strong experience working with communities and community members as well as a strong understanding of community relations best practices. This person also has a strong grasp of local government affairs including local government processes.

This team member will:

  • Engage directly with communities and local governments surrounding SPARC, our commercial fusion energy demonstration facility and ARC, our first fusion power plant
  • Work with the government relations team as well as consultants more broadly surrounding fusion policies, particularly focused at the local/municipal level.
  • - Develop and implement the outreach strategy surrounding community engagement and local government relations.
  • Support in the organization and implementation of community meetings and site tours for the SPARC and ARC sites, liaising with on the ground points of contact
  • Develop and implement fusion education outreach to K-12 in local schools as well as community members and local groups
  • Work with the marketing and communications team to develop and update external materials surrounding site development and progress.
  • Oversee local consultants
  • The ideal candidate will have most, if not all, of these requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in political science, public policy, public administration, political communications, or similar
  • 10+ years combined work-related experience in community relations, local government affairs, local elected office, municipal administration, or similar. 
  • Experience working in community relations with an understanding of community relations best practices.
  • A strong understanding of local government processes including experience working  directly with elected and municipal officials and experience.
  • Experience working directly with community groups, community members, and business organizations including educational outreach, organizing and hosting community meetings, and leading presentations.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written), including the ability to effectively relay complex information in a concise way.
  • Demonstrated ability to work proactively, efficiently, prioritize workflow and meet demanding deadlines.
  • Additional preferred experience and/or qualifications:

  • Related industry experience in clean energy, technology, and advanced manufacturing
  • Perform activities such as typing, standing, or sitting for extended periods of time
  • Willingness to travel or work required nights/weekends/on-call occasionally
