Role Description

The Senior Bioprocess Development Scientist will be an important part of the Bioprocess Development team responsible for developing and optimizing a commercially viable suspension cell culture process for the production of cultured meat. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of mammalian cell culture, different cell types and culture conditions, as well as experience working with interdisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

  • Design and lead strain selection and optimization experiments
  • Develop and optimize suspension and/or aggregate cell culture processes for the production of cultured meat in close collaboration with up and downstream teams 
  • Design and conduct experiments to identify and optimize key process parameters with a focus on efficient scale down experimentation 
  • Author key documents such as SOPs, development reports, and technology transfer packages
  • Analyze data and develop reports to effectively communicate results to stakeholders
  • Work with other team members to develop and implement process improvements
  • Stay up-to-date on the latest advances in cell culture and bioprocess development

What you’ll need to succeed 

  • A PhD in a relevant engineering or scientific field (e.g. Bioengineering, Materials Science, etc.) and 3+ years of work experience OR a BA/BS with 8+ years of work experience in cell culture and bioprocess development 
  • 3+ years of experience with suspension cell culture processes for mammalian cells including domain expertise in mammalian fibroblast, MuSC, or ESC suspension culture, data gathering and analysis for rapid process optimization
  • Experience working within regulatory and quality considerations and establishing Critical Quality Attributes, Critical Process Parameters and Chemistry, Manufacturing, and Controls compliance - experience in cGMP environment highly desirable
  • Drive to be a technical leader in the group, have project management skills, and strong attention to detail
  • Experience with interdisciplinary team-based research
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills

Start Date: Flexible; within the next 3 months.

Compensation: Competitive salary ($100-135k; bi-weekly payments)

Location: The San Francisco Bay Area (Emeryville)
