Responsibilites:

  • Design revolutionary battery system concepts including subsystems, components, and their
    interaction (mechanical structure, thermal management, etc.)
  • Set requirements for cell to module or cell to pack architecture to optimize solid state battery cell
    operation
  • Analyze the pack architecture to accommodate the unique stack pressure, swelling behavior and
    thermal behavior of SSB cells
  • Hands on with all steps of the pack development process from concept design, selection of
    components and prototype builds to design for manufacturing
  • Perform analytical and physical assessment of the battery system to ensure the designs’
    adaptability and reliability match the requirements
  • Manage and create CAD as needed for different battery components to meet the component and
    system level targets
  • Support component specification, validation for SSB pack, battery component and system
    DFMEAs
  • Supplier liaison and technical management, battery vehicle integration oversight and battery
    qualification support
  • Develop and release module system specification, mechanical drawings for the designs
  • Conduct and participate in design reviews, incorporating team feedback and releasing designs
    document

Qualifications:

  • Masters/PhD in mechanical engineering, materials science, or similar technical field
  • 7+ years of academic and industrial experience in battery R&D and manufacturing,
    >4 years of non-academic experience (preferably in a cell or EV pack design role at
    an automotive OEM)
  • Understanding of relationships between cell design and possible failure modes
  • Experience with release engineering tools including CAD design tools such as CATIA,
    SOLIDWORKS or similar
  • Direct experience in Li-ion/solid-state battery system design for EV applications
  • Failure analysis know-how ranging from prototypes to mass manufactured products
  • Ability to plan and execute experiments that lead to high quality feedback and design iteration
  • Excellent problem solving and experimental design approach, driven by curiosity and attention to
    detail
  • Capable of working with cross functional teams across several functional disciplines including
    product design, quality, production, supply chain, controls, vehicle integration to execute on the
    final cell design and optimize the targeted cell criteria
  • Excellent skills are required in technical communication and reliance on data for issue resolution
    and decision making
  • Experience with DOEs for performance evaluation and hardware test & validation for HV battery
    packs
