ABOUT THE POSITION
This role will support Fluence product development by assisting the CTO group’s battery engineering lead on lithium ion battery subsystem hardware, performance, and testing. A general understanding and ability to learn about battery chemistry is necessary but the role will be focused on the electrical engineering aspects of battery systems. Responsibilities include:.
• In-depth knowledge of the battery subsystem components (typically battery modules and BMS) used in current and future energy storage products; maintain detailed library of battery equipment technical characteristics
• Lead the battery pack’s design architecture and able to communicate the concept to management level.
• Maintain close technical contact with battery system suppliers to stay up to date on future product road maps and encourage features that are preferred for incorporation into future Fluence products
• Establish battery system development procedure to fulfill battery roadmap including development phases definition, checkpoint and checklist, technical requirements, validation plan etc.
• Collaborate with system engineering team to determine how battery system technical characteristics should influence overall energy storage system design.
• Supplier management & communication to let them fully understand FLU battery system development process & requirements and release corresponding deliverables on time.
• Maintain and update Fluence technical specifications used in supply contracts for procurement of battery subsystem equipment from major battery suppliers
• Work with 3rd party lab testing of new battery equipment planned for use, such as protection tests, BMS communication testing, integration testing with Fluence control software, access to necessary monitoring data points, mechanical fit and ease of installation, and other evaluations
• Evaluate the battery pack design based on established process and requirements and collaboration with different function teams inside company to deliver the product on time.
• Collect data from battery suppliers on thermal behavior of battery modules during operation and collaborate with system enclosure design team to adapt cooling system sizing for major application types.
• Work with supplier to root cause test failures and production problems.

What does a qualified candidate bring to Fluence?
•Bachelor's degree and above in Electrical Engineering or equivalent required
•8+ years in the development and testing of high voltage battery systems.
•Technical knowledge in broad area of engineering disciplines (Electrical, Electronics, Mechanical, Thermal, Materials, Safety, Test/Validation, Manufacturing)
•Global mindset with experience working in an international/multi-cultural matrix environment
•Strong verbal and written communication skills required - English and Chinese
•Self-starter, results oriented and process driven
•Strong Problem-solving skills
•Energy Storage knowledge preferred but not required
