We are currently seeking a Battery Cell Materials Engineer with practical experience in EV batteries and passion to advance battery cell technology. This position requires strong scientific background in electrochemistry, cell materials, and cell design application. Lead and execute development of battery cell materials, including anode, cathode, separator, and electrolyteWork cross-functionally to brainstorm and co-develop new cell concepts and specificationsWork hands-on to produce electrodes and build cells to assess performance in energy density, power density, DCR, heat generation, and cycle lifePerform materials characterization, analysis, and selection; collaborate with modeling engineers to develop understanding and build technical roadmaps and plansDevelop and execute collaboration strategies and programs with advanced material vendorsDesign and conduct experiments internally and with vendors to optimize electrode material, performance, and safetyDesign and document material or electrode processing parameters and communicate key learnings to cross-functional teams to drive innovation and developmentQualifications:
Deep understanding of the physics and fundamentals of lithium ion batteriesExperience in materials characterization and applying appropriate or developing new analytical techniques to understand material propertiesAbility to identify correlations between material properties and device performanceExcellent problem solving and experimental design approach, driven by curiosity and attention to detailExperience working with external parties to drive battery material development, cell design optimization, and cell manufacturing processesDemonstrated track record of successful introduction and development of new material to full cell productionExcellent communication skills in both technical and non-technical environments – experience communicating with external parties and building strong new relationships is a plusB.S. degree or higher in engineering or science and at least 3 years of industry experience (fewer for candidates with advanced degrees)
