About the role....

At Inari, the Automation & Remote Sensing Engineer is responsible for developing innovative solutions that improve the efficiency and capabilities within Product Development at Inari.  This job reports to the Senior Director, Product Development Operations.  This is a job that would be required to be onsite in our West Lafayette, Indiana location.

As an Automation & Remote Sensing Engineer, you will…

  • Partner with research staff to understand scientific workflows, gather requirements, plan, develop, and deploy engineering projects in various laboratories, greenhouse, and field applications
  • Collaborate with external vendors to identify, evaluate, and integrate their hardware and/or software technologies
  • Lead development of new product designs for automating handling of agricultural products like plants and seeds
  • Create product designs that are value-driven, scalable, safe, reliable and maintainable 
  • Expect an innovative and forward-looking working environment with state-of-the-art technology solutions in the agriculture research area.
  • Collaborate with Data Scientists, Statisticians, Software engineers, etc. on projects to enable novel or more efficient data collection, processing, and analysis.
  • Support sharing of best practice for standardization for equipment and technology
  • Contribute to the development of new process development tools focused on automation and data science
  • Define experimental methodologies, perform risk assessments, and independently conduct experiments.
  • Provide innovative and cost-effective design solutions through networking and optimal use of internal and external resources and vendors
  • Work with project owners to define project scope and evaluate alternatives

 You Bring…

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and a minimum of 5 years of proven experience developing and integrating automation hardware and software solutions, or equivalent combination of education and/or work experience
  • Experience in continuous improvements and innovation in delivery of technologies
  • A strong sense of purpose and drive to develop unique, high impact solutions.
  • Adaptability and enthusiasm for new challenges, innate curiosity, and a passion for learning.
  • Creative and strategic thinking, willingness to be bold and take risks, and the ability to recognize and learn from failure.
  • A collaborative mindset that is open to giving and receiving ideas, perspectives, and feedback.
  • Ability to work both independently and deliver on responsibilities within a highly collaborative environment.
  • Ability to effectively communicate research findings, results, and project updates through written reports, presentations, verbal communication, and poster sessions with a diverse range of individuals and audiences
