Accountant - German Speaking | Climate Tech startup

Carbmee is an enterprise environmental intelligence software company that provides a comprehensive platform enabling large manufacturers and complex supply chain operators to track, manage, and reduce their carbon emissions and broader environmental impact. The company's flagship product, carbmee EIS (Environmental Intelligence System), integrates data across procurement, operations, finance, and supplier management to make carbon emissions traceable, auditable, and actionable from the bill of materials level up to executive reporting. Carbmee supports key regulatory compliance frameworks including CBAM, CSRD, and EUDR, as well as dynamic product carbon footprint calculations and digital battery passport functionality.

Intro

This is a unique opportunity to become carbmee first dedicated in-house accountant. You won’t just be maintaining processes, you’ll be building them from scratch, working directly with our Chief of Staff to bring our accounting function in-house and set the foundation for a finance team that scales with us.

Your tasks

• Own the day-to-day financial accounting (AR, AP, general ledger)
• Account reconciliations and general ledger maintenance
• Support month-end close and preparation of HGB financial statements

• Manage customer invoicing and billing operations
• Support revenue recognition and deferred revenue accounting for SaaS contracts
• Reconcile contracts, invoices and revenue positions

• Run payroll processing end-to-end
• Coordinate with payroll providers and social security institutions
• Ensure full compliance with payroll tax and social security regulations

• Prepare VAT returns (USt-Voranmeldungen)
• Support annual financial statements and audits
• Collaborate closely with our external tax consultants with the goal of gradually bringing processes in-house

• Identify opportunities to improve and automate accounting workflows
• Help build scalable accounting structures as we grow toward 3x revenue

Your profile

• 4-5 years of experience in accounting: ideally in a startup or SME environment
• Formal qualification in accounting or finance: e.g. Steuerfachangestellte/r, Bilanzbuchhalter/in, or equivalent degree
• Hands-on DATEV experience
• Solid knowledge of German accounting standards (HGB)
• Experience with both financial accounting and payroll
• Fluent German (C1 or above) and fluent English
• Structured, precise and comfortable working independently
• Tech-savvy mindset: open to automation tools and AI in daily work
• Experience in or curiosity about SaaS business models is a strong plus
