Who You Are
We are looking for an experienced and highly skilled Welder to support fabrication, maintenance, and repair operations in a chemical materials manufacturing facility. This position is critical to ensuring the mechanical integrity and compliance of welded components in systems that handle corrosive, flammable, or pressurized materials. The ideal candidate will have experience working in regulated industrial environments and hold current API certifications applicable to chemical process equipment.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Interpret and follow WPS, PQRs per ASME Section IX, AWS D 1.1 Structural Steel.
- Perform high-quality welds (GTAW, SMAW, FCAW, and GMAW) on piping systems, tanks, pressure vessels, and structural supports used in chemical processing.
- Fabricate and repair components according to API 510, API 570, API 653, and ASME Section IX codes and standards.
- Interpret and follow technical drawings, P&IDs, isometric diagrams, understand weld symbols, able to produce weld maps to fabrication drawings.
- Work in accordance with plant safety protocols, especially in hazardous areas, following lockout/tagout (LOTO), confined space entry, and hot work permit procedures.
- Collaborate with inspection teams during NDT (e.g., RT, PT, UT) and ensure welds meet all applicable QA/QC requirements.
- Participate in shutdown/turnaround activities, emergency repairs, and preventive maintenance schedules.
- Maintain proper documentation of welding work, including heat numbers, weld logs, and traceability records.
- Assist with equipment installations and modifications as needed to support production and compliance initiatives.
Knowledge and Skill Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required; post-secondary training in welding or metal fabrication preferred.
- Minimum 3–5 years of welding experience in a chemical, petrochemical, or similar regulated industrial environment.
- Weld performance qualification per ASME Section IX
- Strong ability to work safely around chemical systems and in classified hazardous locations.
- Skilled in welding corrosion-resistant alloys (e.g., stainless steel, Inconel, Hastelloy)
- Experience with orbital welding, purging techniques, and welding in clean service applications is a plus.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions
- Pass a respirator fit test and be able to wear respiratory protection on a daily basis
- Wear personal protective equipment including, but not limited to, a lab coat, gloves, safety glasses, and steel toe safety shoes
- Move items up to 50 lbs with the assistance of lift equipment and carts
- Move long distances (such as from building to building) and be stationary for extended periods of time
- Reach low shelves or items on the floor
- Physical ability to work in tight spaces, at heights, and wear required PPE including respiratory protection.
- Climb stairs or over containment walls
- Operate a computer and other office equipment, such as a laptop, copier/printer, etc in a fixed location
The starting base pay for this role is between $37/hr and $47/hr at the time of posting. The actual base pay depends on many factors, such as education, experience, and skills. Base pay is only one part of Sila’s competitive Total Rewards package that can include benefits, perks, and equity. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. This role may also be eligible for overtime.
