Zero-emission solutions for cities. Human-centred, intelligent design - to revitalise public transportation.
At Arrival, our team is creating best-in-class electric vehicles using a radical new method of design and production. We work with some of the world's leading businesses and governments to achieve our goal of redefining mobility and transport ecosystems, transforming how people and goods travel and enhancing urban environments for all communities.
Innovation, rapid development and testing help us to push the boundaries. Our New Method takes our portfolio of patented technologies created in-house, and combines it with assembly in Arrival Microfactories. It’s a groundbreaking approach, leading to products with maximum functionality, peak efficiency, and an elevated experience – at a much more competitive price than other electric vehicles, and even fossil fuel vehicles.

Our microfactories are based on advanced robotics, thus mobile robots are a core component of our operations. While developing good prototypes is hard, design for manufacturing at scale is the real challenge. To have a sizable environmental impact, we have to develop, manufacture, and operate autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) in thousands of units. To this end, our robots rely extensively on robust and high-performing systems, yet they are still affordable. The only way to realize this goal is to build our AMRs from the ground up. Our vertical approach gives us full control over the hardware and software and allows us to replace expensive components through state of the art algorithms and clever designs.
Our AMRs need to be able to autonomously move around, and therefore, one crucial capability for them is to be able to determine their position with respect to the environment. This is the key purpose of our perception team - we are developing a visual SLAM system for all Arrival Mobile Robots. The team consists of engineers and researchers from leading universities and companies in the field. They have full control over the whole pipeline, from the camera hardware all the way to the pose and map output. The current focus is on a robust localization system, built on a sparse and keyframe based multi-camera visual SLAM system. Going forward, the pose information will be fused with dense local map data to perform tasks from navigation to obstacle avoidance. Once these core components are mature, object detection and semantic information will allow for incremental levels of autonomy and automation of our operations.
We welcome you to join our well-rounded multi-disciplinary team of software engineers, roboticists, systems engineers, and product designers.
We are looking for Visual SLAM R&D Engineers to join the Mobile Robotics Perception team. In this role, you’ll be working on a mixture of core algorithm development and computer vision research. You will take state of the art approaches from paper to code and push the boundaries of current approaches to achieve exceptional performance . You will test and deploy your work on real robots in real world scenarios at our research facilities in London and Banbury/Bicester. Our organisational structure is flat, thus we welcome autonomy and entrepreneurship.
It is natural that some tools and approaches used in a production environment are new at first. We work closely together and we are happy to teach and help out wherever needed. You’ll work alongside experienced software engineers. We want you to become one of them.
Perks:
- Learning and Development: Support is provided to attend relevant events, conferences and training to improve your skills externally if desired.
- Wellbeing: We have an in house chef and catering team providing breakfast and lunch every day along with an onsite barista, wellness facilities on our London site are available free of charge
- 24 Days Annual leave per annum, with additional company closure between Christmas and New year
- Flexible working with opportunities to work abroad
- We provide enhanced maternity and paternity leave
At Arrival we want all of our employees to feel comfortable bringing their passion, creativity and individuality to work. We value all cultures, backgrounds and experiences, as we truly believe that diversity drives innovation. Join our mission to bring better, more sustainable transportation to communities around the world.
